    Hey Dave

    Thanks for the pics.

So the only pin that gets the steel washer is the one screwed into the block.

I do have the correct HiPo pin in the block.

So I will re set the pedal height to be higher and re - bush the bar and see if it makes any difference.

I am worried because the effort req is so strong that it will break something.

    Will see how it goes.

    Cheers

I just bought a rebuild kit for the EQ bar and wondered about the assy proceedure as I cant find much detail on CD manual I have.

The bar at the moment has a lot of side to side movement, has no felt washers or steel washers.

So am I right in thinking that you put a steel washer on the pins first, followed by a felt washer, followed by a plastic bushing, then the snap ring ?.

    Fred you are dead right <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

The thing is, I have an overhead hoist and pulling the motor initialy was a cinch. Now the thought of struggling with a trans underneath the car which is on axle stands, and with a toploader balanced on a trolley jack is not appealing.

So I reckon I will go for the motor if I want to change anything.

So what is the verdict on a suitable clutch pedal height ?

I have recently fitted a new clutch. It is a RAM clutch for the HiPo.

It has the stock long type 3 finger pressure plate.

It is incredibly heavy and I am not happy with it.

    Two things :-

What height should the clutch pedal sit at ?.

When I got the car it was way above the brake pedal, so I lowered it a bit so it was more level by putting a bigger packer under the stop under the dash.

The pedal does not return very well at the last bit of freeplay. Sometimes the pedal comes up all the way and sometimes it sticks. I have just less than an inch of pedal freeplay as per the shop manual spec, and wondered if something is amiss.

I am going to re bush the EQ bar as there is a tiny bit of play in the apron end.

Anyone got any tips ? I am considering pulling the motor and putting the old pressure plate back in.

    Thanks

There is a guy selling kits on ebay. The item number is 360313859961.

I am searching for a pump as well for my 67. He didn't have the dates I was after at the time.

    Guys

This whole starter thing has just got even more confusing to me.

So now there is a different offset ? what does that mean ?

I thought the snouts were different between M/T and A/T, but apparantly they are the same ?.

How do you get offset on a starter to cope with more teeth ?

    Could someone explain - thanks

I have asked her if I can have another flight for my 60th in 2020.

Bit early for you was it ?

When the sun comes out over here you have to go for it, any time of the day or night.

Err hang on - got that wrong.

Today I took the car out and cruised for about 20 miles and woopee - no leaks <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

So the blinking thing was leaking past the outside of the seal.

Found the breather as well and poked a wire thru it.

Going to sit and have a beer in the sun now <img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

    Thanks all

    Ray

I have some Hylomar, I will see what happens. The trouble is finding out whether it is leaking past the outsde of the seal or not.

If it leaks again I will take the seal out and examine it with a magnifying glass, perhaps it is a dodgy seal ??.

Really good news on the job. I hope you are enjoying it.

    PS

Does the toploader have a breather anywhere ? I cant seem to find one and wonder if it should have one and maybe mine has been removed ?

    Fred

In cleaning up the exhaust I find that the staining along the pipes appears to be wellseal. I put wellseal around the outside of the new seal when I put it in. Now I wonder as the seal did not seem to fit very tightly if the oil is coming from between the seal and the tailshaft.

So I have taken the seal out and cleaned it and the tailshaft up with carb cleaner, and refitted it back with RTV gasket sealant.

I will put back the oil that I took out and let you know what happens.

    Thanks

Guys I have an annoying problem. I just rebuilt my motor. Before I did this the trans did not leak oil. However I replaced the front oil seal as a precaution. When I took the drivesahft out during the winter I lost a bit of trans oil on the floor, so I topped up the trans to the level plug on the side. It seemed to take a LOT of oil.

First trip out and the rear oil seal leaks - badly.

So I get a new correct type seal and tailshaft bushing, which I find is shot ( and turns out to be the cause of my annoying driveline clunk ). New seal and bushing fitted, seal and slipyoke lubed with assembly lube.

I go out today and do about 50-60 miles and the bl**dy seal is leaking. The slipyoke is in good condition and I used some scotchbrite and rubbed round the seal seat area to retain oil when I fitted it back. I am at a loss as to why the thing is leaking.

    Any ideas ?

The level plug is very high on the box, am I overfilling ? should I take a bit of oil out ? as I did not have the problem before when the oil level was a bit lower.

    Thanks.

Perhaps the belt is worn ?

I am a convert to running a belt only just tight enough, as to rebuild waterpumps is often expensive and parts are hard to come by.

On my Elan the cylinder head, front cover and oil pan have to come off to rebuild the waterpump so I would rather have a few charging problems than a ton of work.
