I am trying to research an engine tag also.

    1st line = 289 displacement 65 model year 5 level change

2nd line = 4 calender year K October N engine number prefix 554 engine number J engine number suffix.

In return for this info please tel me the build date of your car

    Thanks

Today I have played with the PCV valve and got a smooth idle and re set both the stop screws, so am looking forward to a run out.

Goodwood is on Brit TV channel ITV 4 on 20th Oct at 15.00 hrs and repeated on 21st Oct 17.00 hrs Brit time. http://www.itv4.com This site has a feature to let you watch progs again.

    Cheers Mark

    Thanks for the replys

I am getting 224 miles to a tank that = 14 mpg US gallons

With fuel costing 6.51 USD for a US gallon over here I will try to improve things a little.

But hey its what your right foots for :D

    Duncan

The car does not hunt at cruise in fact it runs really good. The only little prob I have is trying to get a smooth idle.

The mixture screws are about 1 1/2 turns out, and it seems to get the engine to even out I have to run a higher idle speed than I would like.

I have fitted a NOS PCV Valve with a hex base that it is clean and 'new' but I did remove the pipe to the inlet manifold and plugged the stub on the nanifold with a finger and the idle evened out.

It seems that the pulsing idle is when the toggle in the PCV lifts and gives the motor a dose of air.

Oh 3.50 rear, stock 25.3" tyre

I will give you a heads up about the Goodwood prog

    Thanks Mark

Just got back from Goodwood circuit revival meeting, great weekend you should be able to watch a programme on the net soon. If I find a link I will post it.

No Mustangs racing this year but lots of track action and a wonderful pre 1966 atmosphere.

The car ran superbly on her first 'big trip'.

We covered about 400 miles over the weekend and averaged about 16.5 mpg cruising at around 70mph, but this is UK gallons.

So on this basis the tank holds 13.3 UK galls which should give me a range of 220 miles.

You guys seem to get an average of around 17mpg US galls, so 17 x 16 gall tank gives a range of 272 miles.

This was all steady sedate stuff, so I think she is a little bit thirsty.

The 4100 is all stock for a HiPo, I have checked all the jets etc, but the power valve is unmarked so I dont know what that is. I wondered how you guys set up the secondary stop screw.

I tried setting it so the plates are just off the venturi and set the idle on the primary idle screw, but the car does hunt and the revs cycle up and down.

This weekend I opened up the secondary screw a little more and lowered the primaries and have a steady idle.

But in doing so I wonder if I am using too much gas thru the secondaries.

If anyone can tell me how to go about it or any other ideas I would appreciate it.

Ok an engine needs to be balanced to enable it to run at high rpm's.

and all the rotating parts are balanced inc crank, pulley, clutch, pistons, con rods.

Why are Ford engines set up with an imbalance ie the HiPo at 30.4 oz ?

What does this actualy mean, what is out of balance, and why ?

My K has been with me since March and I have been out and about a fair bit. I have not found anything much exciting in the car, except a dime and a nut shell with a neat hole in it under the pass seat.

I have done a nice resto/clean up in the trunk - everything out, hoovered the drop offs, new seam sealer, paint, etc etc.

Today I went to put in a can of gas as a backup as we are going to Goodwood at the weekend. On opening the trunk, there sat right in the middle of the immaculate liner was a nutshell with a neat hole in it !!!.

The kids were there and on seeing the nutshell started to wonder what type of critter we had imported, they are convinced we have a racoon in there, but I dont think they like nuts.

    Now my questions are,

Do we leave it alone and hope it leaves on its own accord.

Do we buy some more nuts and hope it eats them and not the car.

Do we try and trap it, if so how many cage traps can you fit in a FB

Do we keep the trap door shut and hope it stays in the trunk.

Do we leave the trap door open and drive with a loaded scattergun, and shoot it if it comes out.

Has anyone sucessfuly shot a critter whilst driving their car.

    Your replys will be awaited.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I will strip the valve and if the bore is bad I will either send it to Jim or maybe look at getting it sleeved over here.

I am getting really hammered on import tax at the moment so will do some research.

    Mark

To date I have only done a safety check over of my '65 FB brakes involving removing front caliper pistons and cleaning/refitting and similar for rear pistons.

I have also drained the master cyl and replaced the fluid.

The car does stop reasonably well, with the front brakes locking if enough pressure is applied.

However I did want to know what the rears were up to, so I clamped the front flexible hoses and did a test, both the rears did in fact lock but with a lot of pressure.

Now during this winter I intend to replace the master cyl seals and tackle the brake proportioning valve.

I know there are early and late prop valve kits what do you think my

13th April 1965 car is likely to have ?

I will measure the adjustment on the prop valve before I take it apart but wondered how people set these up, is it just trial and error? or is there some science behind it, as I think that a properly set up disc / drum system is unlikely to need a power booster.

    Thanks fellas

Have removed the screw and gently got a couple of the clips to let go. I will leave it be now until I have some replacemnts.

Has anyone tried cleaning off all the fuzz and glueing on some new fuzz from a similar weatherstrip?

    Hi Guys

I have been searching but cant seem to find any info on this.

The weather strips on my FB are almost bald. I cannot see how they are held on, I found 1 screw on the outer near the door handle but thats all.

Does the window have to come out to replace these? and are they screwed or riveted to the door ?

Is this somewhere I really dont want to be going ?

I see NPD do a concours set, does anyone have any experience of these or know of a better set.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
