Been going to the Norwalk (ohio) FFW event for a few years, mostly to see the Nostalgia class. At one time, there were 50+ cars in that class, real race cars--T-bolts, galaxies, cyclones and of course, mustangs, etc. There was a Focus class that I enjoyed with my son who has a Focus and likes the sport compacts too. this year, 1 focus. There was a host of 6 second cars. this year -0-. the past 2 years have been really lean. this last week was about 15 cars in nostalgia, most just older street cars. there were not enough quick 16 cars in open and closed classes to make 16 cars combined. I will say this, the event is looking more and more like a NMRA event. street stang, ultra stang, fast stang... and most of those are fox or later body cars. I love mustangs, but come on. Is it the economy killing these events for the 'real race cars' or or these cars not showing up at this particular venue? who has been to some of the other events and what's been there?

You don't say if the motor has been apart or anything changed. is the cam original? if replaced, is the gear that meshes with the cam correct? is it the correct distributor and gear? if the dist gear is not loose, the only other thing I can think of besides the gears not meshing, is that the timing chain is wiped, but then you should not have compression either. do you have access to a 2nd dist?

Youngstown (ohio) area mustang nite has produced about a 1/2 dozen K Kars the last few years, some from as far as W.Va and Pa. hopefully may see as many this year. anyone else planning to go? correctd date August 10

I suppose my criticism could have been premature, but I think if you are going to the trouble of rebuilding an engine, you could take the extra steps to make it what you say it is supposed to be. I know that over 40 years alot of thing happen to a car. at the very least, an air cleaner that the 289 hipo sticker fits on would be minimum.

Was at Summit racing for a Ford show today and there was a 66 C code coupe that had a window sticker that read " dealer installed GT and Hipo upgrade..... includes GT stripe, disc brakes.... conversion to full spec 289 hipo" cost was 510.00. there were pics of the car before and after. apparently this full spec conversion didn't include a dual point, fat crank dampner, or correct cylinder heads. Did not hear the car run, don't know about the solid lifter cam, and it had headers on it now, no pic of the original manifolds. supposedly, the car was a factory 4 speed, but in the photo album was a pic of the 2.80 gears that came out for a 3.25 replacement set. I thought that 2.80 gear came behind the C4? was this hipo conversion a popular thing or just offered by a dealer or 2? wouldnt 'full spec' imply all the pieces to you? my guess is this car got a 4V carb and thats about it. by the way, this car was featured in mustang times or monthly some time ago, so the diary says.

CJ pony parts sells a line adaptor kit to do this. it has a couple of lines and a plug. that may be easier than making them up and it was under 20 bucks. .... 1965-1966 Single To Dual Bowl Master Cyl. Con DRUM BRAKE , ORIGINAL METAL ..part number MU14200O also available in stainless for 30

I never heard of it (for a 9") either that's why I posted. All I have ever done is swap 3rd members out, never built one. That guy did get back to me as well and said it wasn't a Ford thing. thanks for the replies.

thinking about changing my 4.56 gears out for something around 3.89 and was told by 1 guy that I may need to replace the carrier (?) because gears over or under a certain ratio have pinion gears of a size that can't be compensated for by the adjustments. Is that true for the 9" or is that a Dana thing?

    as you wish

    just 2 of dozens

I've had a vibration in mine since forever. thought it could be ring and pinion related but I am going to check the trans mount. question is, if there was nothing wrong with the ones replaced above in this thread, was it just mis-aligned?

if you have bob's book on the small block V8, in the back I think it tells you how to build a 302 HIPO. if you don't have the book, you should get it. I thought the 302 had longer cylinders too ( to compensate for the longer stroke?).

I was at Walmart the other day, they have on the shelf, Accell brand 10w40 motor oil. It says on the bottle, " for use in pre-1989 cars" not for use in new cars. That brand is also sold at Advanced Auto parts or Autozone. I have seen that brand of gear oil at the parts store but not the oil. I think I'll stick with Castrol.

unless there is some of the screw sticking out that you can grab hold of, I would let them do it. I wouldn't think it is seized in the hole so maybe you will get lucky. A few years ago, they removed a broken screw from my choke linkage. After I broke 4 drill bits and was still off center, I gave up.

(resto)modifying a kar does not make it a rebody. repairing a kar does not make it a rebody. equating a new water pump (repair) or changing the paint, changing to dics brakes or rack and pinion (modify) to cutting the VIN out of a car so it can be replaced with the vin from a kar that no longer exists is ludicrous.

I don't have the book in front of me, but you can get a % of the kars (that color) that are in the registry, multiply by total production and have an un-educated guess.
