I bought my Kar on October 15 1972 and have kept it all these years. It ran and drove well but needed some body work and paint. Over the years every time I thought a new paint job was in the cards life happened. Kids need braces, house needs a roof, etc so my Kar took the back seat and I had to wait.

Well, finally my time came and into the body shop it went. 14 months later it emerged looking better that it did when it rolled off the assembly line in San Jose.

I'm very happy with the result and can finally cross out the biggest item on my "to do" list! The content cannot be displayed because it is no longer available. Don't take this as gospel but my understanding is that it depends on the fuel pump. If your fuel pump has a changeable screw on fuel filter then the hard fuel line passes behind the dist.

If there is no fuel filter on the fuel pump then there would be a small screw on fuel filter on the carb inlet.

The filter on the carb pushed the fuel inlet toward the front of the car a bit and forced the hard line to be routed in front of the distributor.

I'm no expert on date codes but I would have expected a VIN of that low number to have a build date in the summer of '64.

My VIN number is highter than that one and it has a build date of Sep '64.

Is the casting date June 8, 1965?

Are reproduction tags available? I lost mine 40 years ago.

While cleaning up my garage I came accross a 4bbl intake with an engine tag on it that I can't seem to decode. It lists the engine code as 574-C.

I was unable to find that number in any of the online decoder lists. The tag states that it is a 289 with a 1964 build date. Can someone shed some light on what engine this tag identifies? I'm hoping it's my original intake and tag, I've run aluminum manifolds for decades.

Wow, that could be anything! A bare wire indicates that it's non-factory. Finding the other end of it will probably be the only way to determine what it's there for. I guess you could disconnect it and see if anything changes. Good luck.
