It would be valuable information if there is there a ford service publication or parts dept TSB out there that would identify a later service replacement K code camshaft by markings and castings on the cam itself , i have looked in the fourth edition registry and Bob Mannels book and found no reference to it.

I'll take the camshaft , i will call . chuck.

Reving "by ear" works just fine.... If I shift like I do my fastback (which has a tach), I rarely let her go above 4K....I get pretty terrified when I approach the 5K mark myself!
I hit the 6000 K mark every time I drive.
I certainly don't judge the driving styles of others, I'm merely pointing out that a well built K code with a stock bottom end can take 6000 - 6500 rpm with ease. If an engine is designed to take the revs, I say give it the chance to do what it was designed to do.

p.s. This has nothing to do with Hi-Po's, but my first motorcycle, a 1970 Honda CB-350, had a red line of 10,500. Guess I just learned early to appreciate the sound of rpmHey little honda, i also owned a 70 honda CB-350 way back in 1974, red & white with ape hanger handle bars and a sissy bar ,

If you look closer at the two white wires you should see a black stripe on one, the other should be all white with no stripe , the all white wire is the field circuit wire and connects to the terminal marked FLD on the alternator next to the large battery 12 volt terminal, the white with black stripe wire is the stator circuit wire and connects to the terminal marked STA , i would check for an open in the field circuit wire with the field wire disconnected from the back of the alternator and the voltage regulator with an ohm meter ignition switch off you should have continuity ,and check for battery voltage of 12.5 volts with a volt meter at the bat terminal of the alternator with the ignition off, sounds like an open or corroded wire on your cars wire harness.
