Quote from rallymanWhat color would the underside of a 31k 65 K code fastback ex San Jose be? Body color is Poppy Red.
Thanks
If the car has 31k miles on it, you should be able to clean off some of the underside and find the original primer color.

I've only seen service replacement disc brake master cylinders with copper caps.
There are 2 types of disc brake MC's, the ones that require fittings with the brake flares and the ones with flares made in. The master cylinders with fittings were used before the others. Not sure when they were phased out, most likely sometime in early '66.
Also, not sure how many know, but there was a recall on disc brake master cylinders during the '65 production year.
BTW, my earlier post about cad plated insert nuts was for the rear bumper to body brackets. I misread your original post.
Rear bumper guard brackets would be semi-gloss black. Fasteners vary by year.
The rear bumper brackets were semi-gloss black with cad plated nut inserts.
Usually seen the fuel line cover painted black, but there might be some variance per assembly plant.
Yes, believe you are correct about it being for a 6 cyl. Major difference being the end-plate having 3 mounting holes.
The starter detail is consistent with what has been found on original unrestored cars. The paint should fade to the base.
Ouch! Looks like the VIN stamp is not original either.
SG Black. Going by memory, there should be black/white sections on the back side.
The '65 GT convertible I used to have had no holes for single exhaust in the frame rails. May '65 Dearborn car.
Quote from jntmjt1That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out. Thanks for clarifying... maybe the right question is did all cars start out as if they would be single exhaust cars, then the dual exhaust stuff added and the brake line mount installed as appropriate?
No, the rear build up with reinforcements was unique only to dual exhaust cars... starting with a K code and then carrying over to A code GT's too.
If you have a machine shop local, you can pay them to soak the parts in their cleaning vats which will usually remove all grease, dirt and paint.
On some items, you will need to media blast. Like the oil pan, brackets, pulleys, etc...
They've had it for about 2 years now haven't they?
The car sold for a little more than my GT convertible did, believe the hammer price was something like $68k. It sold at either Russo or Barrett, can't remember which one. The dealer probably has about $75k in it, guess they're trying to hit it big with the $50k markup.
Reserve was not met at $400. Would've been a hell of a price for a 6k tach! ![]()
The black crinkle finish is correct for '66 with closed letters. The '65 style is usually the open letter all aluminum (but I have seen them on '66 cars also). Never heard of over-the-counter being non-buddy bar, but Jeff could probably confirm that.
Yes, steering stop should be on top of the strut rod and the mark on the rod should point down. Usually a small yellow paint daub near the mark.
Keep in mind that the one on ebay, while it does have the thimble top, is a replacement pump. The correct one for a '66 should have CARbureTER on the side.
BTW, just checked my parts. I have an NOS C5ZZ 17360 A in an old FoMoCo box like the one on the auction and it's a 6k unit.
