How do we really know for certain that it was actually a K coupe anyway... you know how everyone has a "hi-po" :)

It would be good to find out the VIN stamped on the fender aprons. If it really is a K code car, the Registry could list it as "formerly had a K code drivetrain".

I agree 100% with Jeff about the fact that it in no way indicates "knock down". That appeared in MM years ago in an article written by Jerry Heasley about a Shelby that had been done by Bob Perkins and has somehow become an "urban legend". Many knew at the time of publication that this was false but no one ever publically disputed the article.

It's hard to dispute the likes of Jerry Heasley and Bob Perkins, even if further research sheds new light on the subject. ;)

Looks like the fastbsck got the jump, who won:D

You're right. The angle of the picture does create that impression...I took the fastback 3 out of 3 runs: once in the time trials, and then went 2 for 2 in a best of three elimination final. He red-lighted on the second run of the finals, so I really didn't have to push my car hard on the last run for the win.

Both cars are 4 speeds with 3:50 open gears, and with stock engines, were a perfect match up. The fastback was running a set of fatter-sized 14" radials than I had, but he had more trouble hooking up. I was running right at 15 seconds, and probably with some slicks could have gone into the high 14's. I had to ease off the clutch at the start to get the car rolling, and then NAIL it, otherwise I would just spin the tire(s).

Thanks for the post, Fred. I wanted to see how long it would take for someone to spot this obvious reproduction. It's a great example of how dangerous eBay can be for the uninformed.

The correct part number for a genuine HiPo fan is C3OZ-C. Here's a few links to some real fans we've seen on eBay:

No need to feel that way, Rene. I wish you luck in tracking down the pieces needed for your Rally-Pac. It has been reproduced (again), and the latest copy seems to be fairly well done for the money. If you are intent on having the original parts, it may be easier to buy a complete Low Profile Rally-Pac.

This pair of heads was SOLD for $1,380.55 by eBay seller "purefomoco".

    DESCRIPTION:

Items shown for bid are a matching set of 271 HiPo-4V cylinder heads date coded 6A31 (Dec 31 1966). I was told (tale?) they were originally removed from a 67 Shelby Mustang GT 350 from a junk yard years ago in the (Herkemer area) near Albany NY (date codes however does correspond with 67 289 hi-po). Note: these heads could also be purchased over the counter through Ford Parts as a (4V Cobra Clyinder Head Kit) for use on any smallblock 289 65/66 and early 67 Ford products to upgrade performance with solid lifter hi-po cam .Casting time for both heads are to the day and hour ,could the tale be so?? Check photos please. High performance 289Special engines were found on Fairlanes,Mustangs,Comets and Shelby Cobras. I purchased these knowing they are a fresh rebuild (new springs, valves, etc.) but removed from an engine that broke a timing chain (within hours), and valves got slightly kissed by the pistons with no visable damage other than a mark (line across 3 exhaust valves as shown) but I recommend a machine shop check for any problems (bent valves, etc.) prior to installation. I was going to use on my 65 Cyclone but used the low compression heads and dished pistons for today's low octane gasoline. This is an honest discription as always on my e-bay aution items. Shipping costs to be actual amount by priority mail only.

This used MOTORCRAFT distributor was SOLD for $233.50 by eBay seller "fastbackstack".

    DESCRIPTION:

This is the part that fits in the front of the engine and controls the ignition timing. The part number on the stem of the distributor is "C50F-12131-B". The part number on the front of the distributor is "C50F 12127 E 5K20" followed by "Motorcraft". This distributor was pulled from a 289 HiPo in a non-running 1965 Mustang.

This distributor is in good, original condition. There are no cracks or major blemishes. The aluminum housing does not have any major corrosion. It is covered with a little grease, but will clean up very nicely. All major components appear to be in place, however the coil wire is missing. It still has the points and condensor in it.

The distributor gear is in good condition with no chipped teeth. The distributor cap retaining clips are intact and in good condition. The shaft moves freely, but does have a little end-to-end play. This distributor has not been tested and may need to be rebuilt.

This VIN Stamped HiPo block was SOLD for $ $2,434.99 by eBay seller "kollect-this!".

    DESCRIPTION:

Welcome! Up for bid is this 6 bolt 289 HiPo K code block assembly. This block measures at standard bore, and has been cleaned and magnafluxed for cracks (none found). Although it is very, very clean, I do not believe it can be assembled standard, so assume you will need to go to .010, .020, or .030. The date and assembly codes are all clear in the pictures, as is the nearly illegible, but there, K VIN on the passenger front block apron. I cannot read it, but it is there. I received this block in a trade with an active and involved member of the 289 HiPo Registry Website who's name I will pass on to the winning bidder to verify what I have stated. This is alleged to be an actual GT350 block pulled from a 65 Shelby in Texas several years back where it eventually ended up with the man I got it from. This is real deal, No Mexican block. Do not pass this up...may see another when??? The reserve is super low...

This high rise FoMoCo dual quad set up was SOLD for $1,375.00 by eBay seller "danothecatman".

    DESCRIPTION:

This is a very nice set of date coded dual four barrel carburetors and intake manifold as purchased over the counter from Ford in 1966. This was a bolt-on performance option for a 289 equipped Mustang, Fairlane, Falcon, Galaxy or other FOMOCO model.

This is a very, very rare and little used setup that would make a perfect addition to your mid 60's small block Ford muscle car. Cleaning out the garage and making space for other items and I am not building any 289 cars in the near future.

The carbs will need to be rebuilt, but would restore very nicely, when is the last time you saw a setup like this?

This C8ZE Service Replacement balancer was SOLD for $375.00 by eBay seller "1strauss".

    DESCRIPTION:

    Harmonic Balancer HiPo 289 Ford Part # C5OZ 6316 C & Counter Weight C3OZ-6A360-A. Brand new in box/package from 1968!!!

Don't let this one get away!!! Up for auction is a brand new, still in the box Harmonic Balancer for a HiPo 289. This was purchased by my father in 1968 and put on a shelf until now. Please note, the box says C5OZ 6316 C, but the casting has C8ZE on it.

Also included is a 1 piece counter weight (C3OZ-6A360-A) which is also new in the envelope.

Since he hasn't used these in over 40 years, he decided to offer them up for auction to a Ford enthusiast who can put them to good use.

Neither of these parts has been on a car, however, over the past 40+ years their finish has acquired some minor oxidation. The pictures tell the story well.

These are being sold as is, no returns. Please see feedback and bid with confidence. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Good Luck!!

On May-11-07 at 20:22:31 PDT, seller added the following information:

** Please note, it appears this is a box for the C5 model, but the actual harmonic balancer has a casting mark of C8. It appears this was likely purchased in 1968, not 1966 as originally thought, from a Ford Dealer. Following the C8 is what appears to be "ZE". Again, the box lable has "C5OZ 616 C" on it, however, the actual casting imprint is "C8ZE".

Well, these pictures show the 65 standard interior

type rally pack and Rene has the 65 pony interior/

    66 type.

OK, Rene asked for a picture of the High Profile style tach, and didn't specify he had the Pony Interior with a Low Profile Rally Pac. Sorry for the confusion.

The pictures posted are of a "High Profile" Pac as requested...
