715 is too much carb, even with a high rise manifold. Try a 600 CFM carb with a stock HiPo.

this is the conventional wisdom, especially with the stock iron manifold. However, I use the 715 w/ the vintage Shelby aluminum manifold with very good results. Engine has stock internals with the exception of roller rocker arms. When I had the carb restored (by Pony Carbs) several years ago, I did ask them to do what they could to reduce or eliminate the hesitation off idle. I don't know exactly what they did, but the result was phenomenal.

I used an Autolite Hi-Po carb for several years on the same engine with predictable results. The Autolite carb worked better off idle, but not by much, while the Holley carb was far superior above 4000 rpm. A night and day type difference. We all know the kick of the Hi-Po cam above 3500 rpm, the bigger carb takes advantage of the Hi-Po cam very well. So I have to conclude that the Holley 715, with the right adjustments and manifold, will work on any Hi-Po 289 without problems.

    Hi,

I'll say the carb, if the date code is correct,

is worth about $500-600. If it is 593, it would have come off

a 66 Shelby. It would be too late for a 65 Shelby. My friend has 6S923 and the carb is dated 581, i.e. First week of Aug.1965.

    /Bo

Bo I stand corrected, a "593" would definately be too late for a '65.

according to the number "893" you provided the carb was made in 1968, Sept, third week.

It sounds like a carb sold by Shelby in the aftermarket. If the "8" had been a five, I would have thought it came on a 1965 GT-350. You're sure about the eight?

I don't know exactly what to tell you about the carbs value, since it appears not to be (Shelby) original equiptment. I bet the folks at Pony Carbs could give you a value range if you provided them the date code.

is the carb from the 60's? If so add $1500 to your tally. If not add only $300 or so.

Is the engine bored or stock? That can make a huge difference in value.

If the block were .030 over, and heads undamaged, with all the Shelby parts identified as reproductions, it should still bring $5000. If the Shelby parts were from the '60's, the block standard bore, etc. the complete package might go for $10,000 - $ 15000.

Could I jump in with a clutch question: I am finally getting ready to build my '65 "K" convertible, and I have a partially worn out left knee acording to my Doctor-he says to come and see him when I'm around 60-62 for a replacement-I want to drive my "K" with the 4 speed all I can once its done so I'm looking for a clutch setup that will certainly still grab but is the lightest I can get away with in peddle pressure, can anyone make recomendations?? the only other way I can go is with a C4 and I don't want to do that!! Thanks!!

go with the Centerforce basic model, the Centerforce 1.

Kopec and Eber have used Shelby to line their pockets for a long time. [ 30 years + ] They used their positions to pluck cars for themselves at well below market as insiders. Shelby is just claiming its territory and protecting itself from further unlicense/unapproved use.

don't know all the facts, or inner workings of SAAC, but I do know a couple of things; what goes around, comes around. And, compitition is a good thing. Two clubs competing for membership can prove beneficial for the members.

Will SAAC survive, I hope so, but maybe it needs to evolve in order to survive.

Did anyone know who bought the 66 Shelby serial # 1349 that sold on ebay a week or so ago. I have the # 1348 and we might be able to share some build dates etc. Thanks all.

Shelby serial numbers aren't linked with the Ford numbers date wise. They didn't use a "first in, first out system?. So a shelby # 1349 & # 1350 might have widely spaced Ford build dates.

I've been scratching my head wondering what tire I should be getting for my 66 vert restomod. I've decided to go with the 70's Minilite look, and am using superlite 15X7's. I am looking for a very good ride, but also good handling and of course [ think Seattle ] wet braking. Discount tire has quite a range, and has a store close by, so I want to make a choice that I will be happy to live with for a long time. While good choices are solicited, those to avoid are also appreciated. The size that seems in the ball park is a 205/65-15. But size suggestions are also requested for my wheel size. Thanks in advance.:D

215/65-15's are also a good fit, depending on the wheel B/S.

I have a 715 Holley list 3259 with a date code beneath the list number of 503. This date code does not seem to fit the format of year month week. Any input?

are you looking to sell or trade the 715 Holley ? I'm looking for one for my '66 GT-350. Currently have a '67 date code 715 taken off a '67 GT350.

I have the correct Shelby original carb (great shape!) from a 4-speed GT-350. I can post some pics if anybody is interested. It is likely a service replacement (no tag), but it is still the correct carb, unlike the current reproductions. I may be interested in selling or trading for a carb for my '66 4-speed K code (non Shelby).

what is the date code? It's on the air horn.
