    This is an original 6 bolt aluminum 4 speed bell housing for many 289 and 302 cu. in. 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 1973 Ford passenger car models – takes 157 tooth flywheel - Casting number C5DA-6394-A with date as shown (verify in the pics) - threads in great shape – No cracks

    Please note the following

    Picture 3, the lower 2 holes, one is cracked and one has a chip. No impact on the bell when installed

    Picture 4, an extra threaded piece, no idea why, was added. No impact to the bell housing for normal use, but it is there.

    The 1965 - 1967 Mustang used this bell housing, C5DA, 157 tooth, among others.

    The spacer plate is not part of the listing, but is available, no extra shipping cost, for $35 extra. If you want it, please let me know and I will adjust the invoice.

    You are correct about the Ford conversions being much later in the game. Ford did their conversions on Motorcraft single point housings as Ford had run out of dual point housings. Ford did NOT do any stampings on the housing for part numbers or dates but rather put this information on a metal tag. This tag attached where the cover plate goes for blocking the hole for the vacuum advance on a single point distributor. The attaching point for the tag and plate is on the casting where the vacuum advance screwed down when it was used. This happened around 1985 as I was a Lincoln-Mercury parts manager in Santa Monica, California in that time frame. I was appalled to see what was being done and I searched other Motorcraft wholesale parts expeditors to find older stock that was built on a dual point housing.

  • Used 5 Bolt Hipo Engine

    I guess that the transmission could pass as a toploader if you turned it on its side to remove the side cover. Other than that, it is a T10. :) The transmission has a Fairlane tail housing making the transmission longer than a Mustang and the shifter mounts further forward than the Mustang position. There was no special Hipo 289 pump in 1964 and most likely this pump is for a Fairlane and not a Mustang as they are different at the inlet and outlet clocking.

    I could not find any numbers on the block. The owner of the original 1965 HIPO Mustang told me that his block does not have numbers on it as well, and some of these 1964 built blocks did not have numbers on them.
    Motor turns freely and was out of a running Mustang. It has been sitting in storage for many years.

    I also comes with a top loader 4spd gearbox, bellhousing assy, and original shifter and linkage.

    I purchased this motor from a gentleman that purchased this motor for a spare motor for his 101% original HIPO 1965 Mustang. (shown in photo) Photos are to show the originality of a HIPO motor in the car with correct harmonic balancer, fuel pump, water pump etc. to compare it to motor for sale.

    I was originally going to have the motor rebuilt and install it in my RCR 40 but decided to go in a different direction and purchased a 351 stroked to 427 EFI motor from Prestige Motorsports. I am asking $9,995 for the motor.
