  • 64.5 hipo fuel pump ID

    The single spring 3734-S is the only one that I have observed for a screw together pump. I did receive a 3734-S pump from Jim Cowles with a broken rocker arm that was setup with dual springs. The arm was broken off beyond where the rocker arm stamping was supposed to be, so I was unable to determine the origin of that rocker arm. The first true dual spring Hipo 289 pump that I have personally observed was an August 6, 1964 dated 3939-S crimp together type. I did restore an ink stamped C5OE crimp together pump that I consider to be a prototype as it had a slight difference in the casting where the plug for the inner spring was installed. I did restore a late July 1964 3911-S standard crimp together pump that I also consider to be in that same prototype category. I would need to check my log book for the exact date but I am not where my log book is at the moment.

    According to the Repro data plate, this Kar was built September 26, 1964 which greatly predates the factory optional GT and pony interior options. The data plate is a fantasy as it lists a 3.89 limited slip axle which was not available in 1965. Limited slip axles for Hipo Mustangs were not avalable until the 1966 odel year. 6K high profile Rally Pac rather than 8K. Non Hipo vacuum advance distributor.

    This Kar cries out for a prepurchase inspection by a knowledgeable Hipo 289 inspector.

    This is a real deal 1965 Mustang 8,000 RPM Rally Pac assembly. This is the high performance version found on K code 289 cars. All other engines came with the 6,000 RPM tach. The Rally Pac is one of the coolest gauge clusters of the muscle car era. These Rally Pacs were and option on all 1965 Mustangs and possibly 1964.5 models as well. The wiring tag does have a 1964 part number so I imagine these were available in 1964.5 as well. The Rally Pac was also available over the dealer parts counter as a high performance upgrade. Since it mounts to the steering column, this rally pac will fit many years, makes, and models. Please confirm your specific application.

    This rally pac is in nice cosmetic and working condition. It still wears the orignal style black wrinkle finish which is in good condition as shown. The gauge faces are very clean with bright vibrant dials and clear lenses. The chrome eyebrows shine well with great reflection and no significant pitting. The wiring is intact but have been spliced in many places and could use work or replacement to be better, Even the column mounting bracket is intact and in good shape. The tach has been tested and works well as shown in the last few pictures.. The clock adjusts well but I have not powered it on since in my experience a clock should be cleaned and lubricated before testing to avoid damage. This is an amazing original 8,000 RPM High Performance Rally Pac!
