    I know there are several experts out there who can clear this up for me;

    That EXACTLY does the engine assembly date mean...obviously thats the date the engine gets put together but how far is it built?

    1. Is it done only to the short block stage?

    2. Are the heads and intake put on at that point?

    In other words...How far is that motor assembled on that little stamped on date?

    I asked him if they were 15's or 14's, he cannot recall. He knows for sure that the tires were not blue dots though. To complicate things and to further confuse me, I was moving a set of 4 14'' rims that the car came with, (they in the trunk for 'years' I am told), when I noticed a little silver peaking out. Of course being the obsessive person that I am I scraped it off. Guess what? All of those wheels have this sort of wierd colored silver paint on them. The original owner never painted them silver, none of ALL of the owners painted them silver and I have talked to them ALL. However one owner thinks he painted a silver set black and used them for snow tires. Egaads.

    So, once again I am left with more questions than answers, as usual. I know one thing...I am going to have those rims blasted or walnutted or whatever they do to those things and then they are going to be epoxy painted the same silver color because I love that old race car look. The other 4 rims are going to be black and wearing spinner hubcaps. I just found a set of 5 matching, 14 X 6.95 dual Redline Silvertown bias ply's for sale and sold to me for $325...never used except for showing. Safety 1st right?

    Mad4HiPos;

    Yes I know exactly what he did,

    1. Balanced and blue printed the engine,

    2. 4.11's rearend,

    3. tilted the track at a 45 degree downward angle.

    The car is a factory 4 speed, 3.50 standard differential. It has very few options as it was ordered as a race car. If you notice, the radio antennae is mounted on the rear of the car. A radio was an after thought so the dealer stuck the antennae on the rear deck. It has 2 speed wipers, obviously the engine and transmission package, disc brakes, a rally pac, an accent strip and a heavy duty battery. This is a non GT car. I have no idea why he did not choose a non slip differential, however the original owner is a highly respected race car driver and Ford engine builder. This was his first car. I was 5 years old when these pictures were taken. I haven't changed much since then.

    Hello fellow HPMX'ers. I have 3 or 4 relatively good, color pictures of my Antique Bronze 66 K code fastback taken in 1966 shortly after the original owner bought it. I would be happy to post these except it seems insanely difficult to do so on this site. If anyone is interested I can send you the pictures with my permission to post them. My car was purchased March 15, 1966 and the original owner tells me these shots were taken in May of 1966 as he made his way through the Canadian Rockies. This is a Dearborn, factory ordered car, that went from Ontario, Canada to British Columbia, Canada during that trip. These are the tires it came with. I have heard that the color of these wheels was "Sahara Beige" is the true?? rburton1961@hotmail.com

    I have some pictures of my 1966 K code with its original wheels. These pictures were taken soon after the original owner bought the car in March of 1966. Unfortunatley I am unable and not patient enough to figure out how to post much of anything on this site as it seems ridiculously and needlessly cumbersome to do so. HOWEVER if anyone would like to see these pictures I will send them out and maybe you are clever enough to post them. rburton1961@hotmail.com

    *They look identical to the picture posted by Mad4HiPos by the way.

    What color are they...I have heard Sahara Beige???

    Thanks to both of you, SixT5HiPo and jwc66k; your insights and information are both very helpful and interesting! I thought that it would make more sense, as an auto maker, to have 'too many' parts available as opposed to too few, during production runs. After all, theorectically, they would need to stock those parts anyway for use as replacement parts down the road some day.

    Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my questions, I appreciate it very much. Iscman; thanks for solving the X question, your answer makes complete sense.

    Interesting comment also about motors having all of the parts within a two month time frame, I have always heard quite the opposite. Even cars that I have studied online that are said to be "all original and date correct" have parts like say exhaust manifolds with casting dates several months before say a head casting date. A gentleman from Pony Carbs was insistant that carbs were added to the engines 1 to 3 weeks prior to that engine being installed in a car. If that is true, then the dates struck on those parts could be within 1 week of the assembly date of a particular car.

    From what I have read on the topic of assembly dates at a SAAC forum, they are pretty specific in their opinion, which is;

    Engine Assembly Date: 1 week to 2 Months prior to

    Steering Box Build date: THEN 1 to 3 weeks to

    Vehicle Assembly Date

    Right there, in that little time frame, you have up to 2 months plus 3 weeks, (81 days), from an assembly date of an engine to that engine being placed into a car, if that SAAC forum is to be believed. On my engine alone, I have a casting date of Dec 10, 1965 and an assembly date of Jan 5, 1966 which in this case, effectively adds another 26 days to the theorectical 81 days, putting the total to 107 days. My heads were cast November 4, 1965 stretching the time period another 36 days to 143 days from the time the heads were cast until the car was produced.

    Obviously blocks, heads, manifolds and the like have to be cast ahead of time to be readily availble for assembly and car production. They probably were cast at various foundries and needed to be trucked in and stored for a period of time and used as needed. Also, gears needed to be machined, distributors built and all of the other supporting parts required for car production.

    I wonder if all of that could have happened in a 60 days period back in the mid 60's?

    No, I do not have the window sticker, just the original bill of sale. Very lucky that the original owner kept it and lives about 40 miles from me. He also has many pictures of the car from 1966 to 1968 when he sold it. He is still a highly regarded engine builder and racer here in British Columbia, and a heck of a nice fellow.

    I only know that because I have one and was trying to look like and expert for a change! Now how about helping me figure out the things that I asked on my codes question today....c'mon you are an expert. Why is there an X in the assembly daty date of my engine 6A5-X? Do my parts, (now that I have some), look like they are in the right sequence?
