    Still having issues....

What was sent this time is a cam gear that looks just like the original but is almost half again thicker. They also sent a thicker crank gear which has no hole for the split pin for the hatchet looking counter weight. Are there 3 different style t/c sets? I've called RockAuto and they are trying to figure this out.....

Any more ideas as to wtf? Thanks.

    Fantastic, thank you very much.

I have an early stlye cam gear and they sent me a late stlye replacement. (I did give them the part number though) Guess I'll be on the phone in the morning, or can I use the late style instead? Seems to clear the cover from a quick "test fit" but also fit rather loosely and I didn't try the bolt...

Recieved the timing chain & gears today from RockAuto as mentioned in the link in the post above. My question remains the same though on the cam gear. Should the cam gear have a "collar" on the inside towards the engine? The one that came off is flush on both sides. I assume it has been changed before? What should the end of the cam look like? Anyone have a picture? TIA

VCM has been one of my favorite vendors, their service has always been top drawer and any issues were quickly resolved with a phone call. We used them almost exclusively restoring Parnelli Jones' `70 BOSS 302 over the last few months. My only bitch about VCM is that they aren't in California. <img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Look for a Feature on Parnelli's BOSS in the upcoming May Issue of "Mustang Monthly".

Is the timing set on these HiPo's different than your basic 289? Seems to be the case with what came off this engine. The crank gear has a split pin 180 out from the key-way slot and it fits into what I would call either a counter weight or maybe an oil slinger that mounts on the backside of the gear. There is an oil slinger in front of the gear also though so I'm not sure which it is? Also all the cam gears the parts house show have a collar on them where the one that came off the engine is just flat.

Where can I get a correct timing chain and gear set like what came off? As always, any help or leads will be greatly appreciated.

Who do you fellas recommend sending master cyls to for a sleeve and rebuild? My local parts store says they are N/A and I don't want to use their service as I have been burnt once by them and would like to do business with someone that speaks English. This is the problem living this close to the Border.

I called them this morning, thank you guys for the tip. He does not have another one at this time. The one they had sold on eBay for over $700.00 bucks just the other day! This one will have to be rebuilt at a cost of $139.00 I believe is what he said, cheap enough. One day turn around was more good news.

    Thanks again-

Where would I find another harmonic balancer for this `65 289/271hp HiPo? I know IF this engine has been balanced (don't know it's history) I may have another problem, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

The rubber is pretty well shot on this one and for whatever reason it has a C8ZE-A part/casting/engineering number?

    Thanks
