As far as the welding process at the center section, here it is. The center section has a chamfer and a tube inside it that the tube is slipped over. About 3 inches of tube from the factory. The chamfer is laid back at about 30 to 40 degrees and the weld penetrates the tube and fills in the gap at the chamfered area. The tube is pressed against the center section being chucked up in the lathe and cranked up tight and held straight within .002" to .003" of an inch by the tail stock center. Many of these have been welded this way and none have ever failed, no complaints. I think our weld technology is superior to the factory. The center section actually has about 3 inches of tube that the axle tube slips over. The extension is a pilot for alignment and strength. These pilots were added at the factory. When the old welds are removed and old tubes taken apart from the center section the pilot is not damaged. thanks Don

I am in need of a set of leaf spring perches. Mine have been butcherd by someone and beyond saving. I have been told the 8" perches are different. I have a late 66 car, but it is a 65 housing,if someone would be interested in a trade for a 66 housing that would be great too.
Thanks Brian
Brain, I have pictures of spring perches and will gladly email to you if you email me at dq29686@aol.com

Take a look at item number 150244503298. It is a 64 1/2 coupe and they show the passenger side of the 9 inch housing under the car. Note the size of the tubes at the welds. There is no step down. They are 3 inches after the welds. I check all the early cars to drive home the size of the tubes. The housing recently advertised on Ebay had 1 bidder. The seller, from California told me the tube diameter was 2 3/4 inches in diameter after the welds. It was supposed to be a 66 reproduction. The seller had the right center section but the 8 inch tubes. I hope the buyer understands the difference. If not now he probably will later. Mr. Hipo

About 10 months ago I completed a build in a 65 289 engine. It has everything in it new. Pistons, reconditioned rods, nice crank reground. The heads have everything replaced Studs springs valves guides retainers and keepers and rocker arm balls and rocker arms and push rods and new valves intake and exhaust.I can put a solid lifter cam in it for you and it woll turn 6500 RPM. I would also replace the valve springs do they would support the cam needs. The engine is for a 65 Fastback and I have a ton or money in it. If you want a early engine there you are. If you want a late roller engine I can anser the call also. W-mail me at dq29686@aol.com thanks Don

The 66 mustang K-Code and Shelby's had the same housings as the 64 1/2 and 65 k code mustangs and 65 Shelby's. They had 3 inch tubes at the welds. The 8 inch housings for the 260 and 289- 2 and 4 barrel engines had the smaller 2 7/8 axle tubes. Mr. Hi-po

After doing extensive research on the K- Code cars, I found the 1963 thru 65 Fairlane K- Code Cars had the 9 inch housings with 3 inch tube diameters at the welds. The 63-64 Thunderbolts and Hi-po 289 cars had a lesser neck down tube for the u-bolts that can hardly be seen. The Thunderbolts were K-Code cars because of the heavy duty rear housing. This was the forrunner to the Mustang housing that showed up in 64 1/2 hipo ,K Code Mustangs.Even though the 3 inch tubes were totally different, the center sections were the same. I have made 2 of these housings and they also are beautiful and correct.I built one for an Original Thunderbolt that was going through a concours resto. Starting with the 63 K- Code Hi-po Fairlane, There were never early 641/2 - 65 housings with a 2 7/8 dia. axle tubes. I had all this validated before I got it right the second time around. Don Quillen.

I was asked if I was producing the correct clone for othe 65-66 k code
9 inch rear end housing. My answer is, I don't choose to call it a clone but it is correct, dimensionally and is an alternative for those who are searching for a housing. I have gone to great lengths to create the exact housing. It has been expensive and time consuming. I am proud to say you can lay it down beside an original and not know the difference as I have done. I use to make them with 8 inch tubes removed from 8 inch housings. I caught some flack for thinking I had it right. After doing my reserch a bit more thorough. I found the axle tubes were 3 inch in dia. at the welds on each side of the center section. Therefore there was no one making any such tubes that I could use. I, being an engineer set out to manufacture my own tubes and flanges. Once welded and checked you will see I have it right this time. And no, the 3rd member doesn't come with the housing with the price I first quoted. Thanks for the inquiry Don

I will have new 64 1/2, 65 and 66 hi-po Mustang and Shelby rear housings avalable next week starting april 21, 2008. The axle tubes (3.00 inches at the center section welds) will be new as well as new flanges at this time. I will use original Galaxie center sections and original spring pads from 8 inch housings. This will put to rest all the housings that have been put into the system with smaller 8 inch tubes welded on to Galaxie housings.
This has been a long time coming and a really nice new, not rusted or pitted up piece. I am pricing them at $2,000.00 per housing. Seeing an exact housing was sold several years ago for over $2,000.00, an old posting. My Name is Don Quillen, Mr. Hi-Po. I live at 805 west 7th street, Columbia, Tennessee 38401. My e-mail number is dq29686@aol.com.
If you are interested in one or just interested about the new product e-mail me. thanks Don
