If I recall correctly, the original early pulley is not completely flat on the back. It's "built in" spacer is just shorter than the later one.

It is difficult to explain, but it just boils down to the "numbers" and lack of knowledge. We are always learning new things, and I think the flat alternator fan thing is just something that lots of people are not familiar with. Maybe one day, we will see a reproduction of this fan. For right now, the huge majority uses the other fan. The spacer should be fairly easy to come up with something that works. That said, maybe that is something that can be "put on the table" for the future, and I will suggest it.

Frankly, it is surprising that the earlier pulley is even available. We don't sell that many of them.

Pulley is incorrect for a HiPo car. HiPo's used the larger pulley as shown above.

It is unique to all of the "earlier" applications that use the flat style fan, not just the HiPo's. Since the fan is flat, there needs to be a spacer behind it. I believe Bob Mannel's Small Block Ford some very nice pictures and information on this.

Description:

289 HiPo Alternator Pulley. Steel with correct black finish.

Features part number C5AF-10A352-C stamped in face of pulley just like the original. Part number is stamped in a straight fashion-exactly like the original. This is the earlier style pulley that was used from the beginning of the 289 High Performance Mustang production (with alternator) to approximately May 1965 production.

This pulley also features the circular machining marks like the original.

Here is a quick shot of an original grommet from a March '65 San Jose Production car.

I am not aware of this exact grommet being used any place else on the car.

The wheel color was listed as "silver," but it did have a bit of a strange tint to it. The 15 x 6's that I have seen with original paint are more silver than beige. I'm speaking of 65-early 66 GT350's on this color.

They may have been black on a standard Mustang though.

I've seen that and knew the owner of that car, but I don't know if it was ever verified if that particular car originally came with those wheels or they were added later or if the wheels that are in the picture are the correct style, since that is a restored car.

I was more talking about finding a vintage image from '65 or '66 with a car originally equipped with these wheels.

Other than the old Road and Track road test article, I have never seen 15" wheels on a Mustang other than a GT350. The wheels on the Mustang in that article look just like the wheels that came on the early GT350's. I would love to see any original pictures of any other Mustangs with these wheels if you have them. (Edit: I did just see your vintage pictures of your car in the Skrapbook section of the forum - very cool stuff!!)

The 15 x 5.5 inch wheels that were originally installed on the early GT350's show up for sale once in a while. They look just like the 6 inch wheel that Dave posted a picture of above. There are many variations of Ford steel wheels, so be careful to get the proper one.

There are actually two manufacturers that I am aware of at this time: Antique Auto Battery - Small battery inside of case and now the new Axion Power (old New Castle Battery) - real AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)Battery.

We now handle the new AGM reproductions and have been very pleased. We keep them in stock.

First, let me say that I'm sorry that it took so long for me to answer your question. Your question is a great one.

There is a significant difference in this area also between the new "show quality" Kick Panels and the other reproductions.

This picture displays the difference. I also slipped a piece of windlace inside the new kick panel, and it works very nicely. The more that I look at these new kick panels, the more I like them.

I know that there was an old, interesting thread about the finish on disc brake proportioning valves. Here is what I found on one example:

The original paint on the back side is definitely black. After painting, certain areas were machined and left bare. The threaded part appears to be clear zinc or cadmium plating. The adjuster nut is the same or zinc dichromate (yellow/gold)-I cannot determine that until it is disassembled.

This particular valve appears to be original to the car with a date of "120-5" which translates to the 120th day of 1965 (April 30, 1965.) This is a very late '65 San Jose production car built around the end of June or the beginning of July. Just thought that some here would find this interesting.

White may be available in the future along with some other colors hopefully.

Although it is difficult to fully explain/show the differences with words and pictures, please see our blog link above.

The Canadian ones were the finest on the market until these kick panels came along. Those are the other brand that we sell and what I am comparing in the blog post.
