Troy,
You had me going there for a second...just a second though. The Corvette reference on the Mustang board caught me off guard a bit.

Quote from 6hypo5convMy friends at VA Mustang tell me that there was such a tag originally but don't think it is reproduced....
I have never seen or heard of a tag for the manual choke operation on a 65-66 Mustang.

Mark,
Your question is a very good one. You may try to post over on http://www.saacforum.com if you haven't yet. I may be wrong, but 15 x 6 steel wheels may have been used by the time your car was produced. Sorry that I cannot be of more help.
I do have a fairly close up picture of an original (probably) wheel on a late '65. You also may want to look at the pictures here http://www.colinsclassicauto.com/detail.php?car=161
What number is your car? I have #33.

Thanks for the photos. Sorry if it seemed I was saying you and VA mustang were incorrect. I do see something interesting. Your car is JAN 65 and SJ build. Most of the cars and owners I was talking to were 64 Dearborn.
Here is a picture of a Nov 24 64 un touched Dearborn coupe. Mine is Sept 28 64.
Maby the SJ or Jan has something to do with the toe pad starting to show up possibly?
Yes, I would say the different plants and, of course, dates would make a difference. You will also notice that the "earlier" carpet as pictured has a different heel pad than what is on the carpet in my pictures. This style of heel pad is not available. I have had customers use their old one though. It is just so difficult to find an original heel pad worth re-using.
BTW, to everyone-thanks for the input. There is just a lot of great information and knowledgeable folks on this site.

Quote from J_SpeegleBrant/ club 33 Notice that the heel pad is reversed. Just asking, but how did you determine its the original carpet?
Think this might be a replacement. Have a couple of San Jose cars were the serged edged carpet was remade with heel and toe pads similar to yours - only the heel pad was orientated the other way around like the later carpet
Jeff,
The heel pad just came off of the carpet, so I just threw it on there for the photo.
There is no doubt it is the original carpet-it "matched" the rest of the car. It was fairly easy to tell plus no replacement that looked like that when pulled out would be cut and serged on the edges.
Quote from CharlesTurnerVa Mustang sells the correct serge edge carpet for a fastback. That style carpet was used way into '65 production. My January '65 K fastback had the early style carpet. Have a late Jan '65 coupe out of San Jose that also had it.
Charles,
Did your January '65 Fastback have the original carpet to determine if it had the heel and toe pad or just the heel pad?
See my other post with pictures from my original carpet in a San Jose/Jan. '65 fastback with the heel and toe pad.
Thanks,
Brant
Quote from 5F09CHowever VA mustang (Super company, I order a lot of stuff from them) insist that the fastback carpet has a toe pad. You and I have talked this on VMF. I believe the consenious was if it was surged then no toe pad. Again you can just cut the toe pad off.
Thanks for the comment.
We will be glad to order the early carpet with or without a toe pad. I have seen many early fastbacks with the cut and serged carpet with the heel and toe pad. That said, there certainly may have been fastbacks produced without the toe pad. BTW, the mass backing on the carpet is not listed in our catalog, but it is no problem to special order. It is a $50.00 option.
Here are some images of the original carpet from my 65 GT350 (around Jan. 65 production) with the serged carpet with the heel and toe pad. Please note that the second picture shown here does not have the heel pad (it came unattached and just was not included when I took the picture.)

Quote from BoSDisplay MoreGot Mustang Monthly yesterday and there is an article about
#520 with 28k miles on the odometer and it has a cast iron
waterpump. The car came to Shelby on 6/16/65 so the engine
was most likely assembled in the first week of June.
My car's, #275, original engine was assembled on May 3 and
it arrived at Shelby on 5/13/65, i.e. 10 days later.
My friend's 65 with the 5/24 engine assembly date arrived
at Shelby 6/12/65, i.e. almost 3 weeks later. It has an aluminum pump. Again, it looks like the switch must have made by the end of May to early June. Personally, I believe the engine assembly date
is the guide line to follow.
/Bo
Bo,
I appreciate your input on this. I have been in contact with the owner of the '65 in this month's Mustang Monthly Magazine. Assembly date on the engine is May 27th (one day after mine.) As you noted, this car has a cast iron pump.
There was probably a time where either type of pump may show up on a late May assembly date.

Quote from BoSA friend of mine has a 65 Shelby with an engine assembly date
of May 24, 1965 and it's equipped with the aluminum water pump.

Bo,
Thanks for the info. I saw your response over on the SAAC Forum also (I posted this on both forums.)

Quote from J_SpeegleHave an old friend that use to reproduce (re-stamp) these. I'm sure he still has the art work/stamp and could do some. He use to do the voltage regulators and coils too
Jeff,
I used to deal with this person a very long time ago (Stacie and Richard??) Do you still have their contact information? I would really like to find out if they would still be interested in doing the coils and the fuel pump canisters.
Thanks,

Thanks, guys. Assembly date is May 26th.
I know this has been discussed before, but I thought that I would ask for any original examples.
I'm trying to determine which water pump (cast iron or aluminum) was installed on my '65 (actually an early '66 GT350.) The original block has a casting date of May 18, 1965 and an assembly date of May 26th. Unfortunately, the original timing cover is long gone; so I cannot be 100% sure of the original water pump style. Going by VIN's around mine, the scheduled build date for this car would have been around the end of June 1965 (since it's a GT350, there is no data plate.)
I know all the info. says June '65 for the cast iron change over, but this is close. I would rather hear from a known original.
Thanks.
I have a Jan. '65 San Jose car with a blue base. Appears to have been original.
Wallace,
I also sent you an email with a question.
Thanks,
Brant
Jon,
Got the pictures and sent you an email.

I may be very interested in this part. Please send me an email, so I can determine if this is what I need. I have a picture that I can send you of the one I need. Maybe you can send a picture also.

The other radiator thread is getting long, so I thought that I would start another. The question is different anyway. Please take a look at these three pictures. They are of two different radiators. Both are the "Dearborn Style" radiators.
Has anyone seen a tag like this? It appears to be a date tag (it is very close to the date on the side straps).
Second question-you will note that the other radiator (third picture) has no indentation on the top tank (engine side) for the fan - any ideas?

Quote from bobmannelThere should be a number stamped on a boss just above where the equalizer bar engine stud is located. The boss is machined flat (vertical) and the number is stamped there. Would appreciate knowing what it is.
Bob,
I really thought that I could see this, but the engine is still in a car. Between that and the darn headers, I cannot seem to tell what it is. It looks like a number is stamped there, but I just can't make it out.
