I have sent pictures of the underneath to one of the members here, he feels it looks correct to be a Hi-Po body. It does trouble me that BJ Auction had it listed as a Mustang, not a GT or even a K code. It was sold this year at the Fl. sale.

If the above is accurate and then one sees a VIN that was obviously welded in place makes me think this K code does not pass the smell test. As you say Charles, we don't want to jump to conclusions, but I think this is rather compelling evidence if all is accurate.

Gene - Thanks for all that info. After I inventory all the parts I will let you know what I am missing or needs replacing. That is if you want to get rid of your items.

If you see the HIPO repo pulley again please let me know. Do you happen to remember his ebay name?

I think you are correct about the automatic choke and single exhaust. Lot cheaper to replace that carb then the HIPO Mustang 4100. I really hate to have single exhaust but I am determined to put it back as close to original as possible.

Thanks again for all the info.

Keep an eye out on e-bay for the generator pulley, I've seen a couple over the years. Also check the Galaxie website's as I believe the 406 and early 427's used the same generator pulley. Mine came off a 406. I've had several of them (pulleys) over the years but sold them. Single stage enamel paint on the exterior. I used glasurit by BASF and it still looks like it rolled out of the paint booth even after 20 years. Red oxide on the underbody. Gold valve covers and air cleaner with chrome dealer option available in 64. Let me know what other parts you might need, I still have a few items left but most of the good stuff (hipo) is long gone. Terry

Thanks Terry. When you get a chance let me know what you have and if I need any of it I will let you know.

Larry, can you tell me the diameter of the pully on your generator? I was thinking, maybe the one off an alternator would work. Ford was known back then for just putting new numbers on some items and using them for different applications. If that will work it will at least allow me to continue on with my project until something better comes along.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Well yesterday was a great shopping day. I got an original fan and distributer with the correct dates for my Fairlane. I got a bid in for a standard generator with all the mounting brackets. I think the brackets from any early 289 will work. Now, all I need to do is find a pully. Would just a standard pully work as long as I keep the RPM's down? That would allow me to complete the engine and drive the car until I find the correct pully.

Spoke with the transport driver yesterday and we are on schedule for a delivery of early Friday evening or Saturday morning.

In addition to what Charles told you I would be contacting the local police. It sounds to me this could be considered fraud. I'm sure the local auto theft unit would love to see the altered VIN.

    Good Luck,

    Gary

Larry, I have already joined FCA. For some reason I can't post but Bob is trying to help me with a fix.

I will give NAPA a try on the generator. I think the hard part to find will be the pully.

I just finished looking at your car and I must say I am totally impressed and a bit envious. I hope to have mine looking as good as your HIPO.

    Thanks, Gary

Larry, I think the engine and valve cover color on the 64 is probably the same as it is on a 63. I will research this further to be sure. I'm not sure on the air cleaner top for the 64 either.

So, I think we can all agree the undercarriage should be red oxide. Is it painted like the Mustang? What I mean is, the red oxide goes up to the bottom of the engine bay.

Does anyone know where I can get a generator? I don't think my car has one on it.

Thanks for the help Larry and if you could post some pics of your car I would appreciate it.

P.S. Thanks for the congratulations Larry. I currently have two K code Mustangs and I cherish them both. But, my life long love has been for a 64 Fairlane HIPO.

Thanks for the info Jim. The first part of my VIN is like yours, 4K47K. The door tag reads as follows:

    Body: 65B

    Color: X

    Trim: 86

    Assembly Date: 03A

    DSL: 71

    Axle: 8

    Trans: 5

On my car the interior is Black so the dash should be black. If you could post some pics that would be great.

Calling on all HIPO Fairlane experts.

I know this is primarly a Mustang site but I hope you folks don't mind me asking a few HIPO Fairlane questions now and then.

My 1964 HIPO Fairlane is scheduled to be delivered late Friday or early Saturday and I want to completely restore it. The first thing I want to do is get it ready for an original paint job. Did they use Acrylic Enamel then and was the interior floors and dash painted the same color as the body of the car? How about the underbody, was it painted with red oxide? The car was assembled in Kansas. I'm sure each plant did some things differently.

I'm going to pull the engine and drive train and while the body is being done I will work on detailing the engine and drive line. I'm told the engine was recently rebuilt but they painted the block blue. From what I have found, the engine should be black and the valve covers gold. Is that correct?

I have a new correct carb that I have bid in on ebay. Hopefully I will get it. If I don't, Pony Carbs has one. I wonder what fuel pump they used? I should be able to find this out in Bob's book.

Any help given towards answering these questions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Sounds like a real find...

Hopefully we'll get to see this car if the new owner finishes it and gets it running again.

Gene, you will see it again in all it's glory. I will put it back as close to original condition as I can. I know, from reading your post, that you have a lot of knowledge about HIPO Fairlanes. I would appreciate your help in making sure I put it back the right way.

    Thanks, Gary

I have a low mileage K with all original interior and engine bay. I would like to clean up the engine bay and hopefully bring out the luster of the paint without re-painting it. I will be pulling the engine out as it needs some serious cleaning. What would you recommend I use to liven up the engine bay?

    Thanks for your help,

    Gary

    I need a Fan for a 1966 K code engine assembly date of Feb 17th 1966.

    Any help appreciated.

I mistakenly posted this in the Generic Parts forum so if someone can delete that message I would appreciate it.
