I have a vintage 1966 Hurst shifter on my car now with the Hurst handle(stick) and knob. I also have the complete original Ford shifter that came with my car. If I understand what is being said, It is the actual shifter head that is modified so I would have to buy a new head assembly from David and use my original shift handle and knob, correct?

    Hello All,

I am looking for the wire channel for a low profile rally pac. I bought a repop from NPD but it is too narrow when placed in the lower bracket of my original bracket.

Please let me know if you have an original or know where I can get one. It can be a repop as long as it is the same width as the channel on the original bracket.

    Thanks, Gary

Well, I have all the old paint stripped off and will hope to be painting it this weekend if the paint from NPD gets here.

Can someone tell me if the rings on the lens are supposed to be chromed or should they be painted the same color as the Rally Pac body? In this case Parchment. NPD sells new lens and rings but the rings are chromed. I'm not sure they were originally chromed.

    Thanks, Gary

Thanks for the help Jeff. Sounds like the oven procedure is going to be the best way for me to do this. If I do the 250 for 15 min, do you think this will give me the finish I need for the rally pac? Also, I will be using PPG paint in a rattle can for this. I can shoot it with a gun but for something this small I think the rattle can will work. What do you think?

Thanks to all of you for the tips.

    On Edit:

Thanks for the pictures Jeff. Now I fully understand what Charles was saying about painting the inside of the pods black. I assume Ford used the flat black for this but not sure. Do you know?

Hey Larry, good to hear from you. I have been busy with other matters and the Fairlane has been put on the back burner for awhile. As soon as I get back to Fl I plan on moving forward with it. I think I have all parts necessary to put it back together except for a single exhaust system. Is anyone making a reproduction of it?

I thought of doing the black crinkle first but I would like to keep it original as possible. Pictures I have seen of parchment colored Rally Pacs were not done with the crinkle. I would love to see a picture of an original parchment rally pac with the crinkle.

First I will try the process of heating the part in an oven then painting. I have been told this works very well but I'm not so sure about doing it. If there is no crinkle parchment paint available I will probably go with what you suggested. Keep in touch.

Thanks Charles. I have no problem finding the crinkle paint in black but have not found the crinkle parchment. Do you or anyone else know where I can get the crinkle parchment? I've read that you can get the crinkle effect by heating the item to be painted in an oven then shooting it with regular paint. Has anyone done this? Also, if anyone has a picture showing the inside paint of the pods I would appreciate seeing it.

    Thanks again for the help.

I have a rally pac (low profile) that I would like to refresh and put on my 66 K.

The following info is take from the data plate on my K.

    Warranty#: 6F09K

    Body: 63B

    Color: V

    Trim: F4

    Date: 02C

    D.S.O.: 32

What color should the original Rally Pac be painted? Should it be smooth or wrinkled? And lastly, where can I get the best paint for the job and a paint code if anyone knows it.

    Thanks for any help.

I misread some of the information in the article. The K was bought by Don Phillips and he completely restored it. He did an awsome job on the rebuild. Anyway, if anyone talks to him and he wants this article he can have it for the asking.

    Gary

Will the current owner of this GT fastback please contact me. I have a neat magazine article that features your K. It had 4481 miles on it when the photos were taken and was bought new by Don Phillips. It is in the registry with the last know location being NC.

What is really neat about the article is it list all the options on the car with the price Don paid for it when new. A lot of neat color photos also.

Gary, I too have a C5OE balancer with no date. I'm not quite sure what the story is with it...

Britton, I think some were obviously made without a date stamped on them. The one I have is in the original Ford box with a part # C5OZ-6316-C on one lable. Another label that is mostly destroyed has a date of Apr 86 on it.

If all this information on the box is correct, then my balancer is obviously an over-the-counter purchase made in 86.

I got an email from rpm427man and he said the date should be located next to the "Timing numbers." The only timing marks I see on mine is 5 groves that go from the front to the rear of the balancer. No degree marks or numbers whatsoever.

    Gary

When did the C8 replacement balancers first become available? Up until that date if you bought an over the counter replacement balancer was it a C5? I assume none of the over the counter replacements had a date code. Did all the ones put on at the factory have date codes?

    Any help appreciated.

Please don't ever use gloss black on an engine block. It makes me move on to the next car much too fast....

Bob, I agree 100%. But this brings up another question. For my Fairlane I purchased the Chevy Ash Gold from PPG to paint the valve covers and air cleaner. If I'm not mistaken this is going to be a high gloss. Is this correct for these items? If need be, I think I can cut down on the hardner and reduce the gloss.

    Thanks, Gary
