Here it is currently. I have just a standard 289 in it now that's ready to fire. I have the original motor in the machine shop, but saving dollars to build it correctly. I have the dash all apart now and want to get it painted.

They are my favorite stage honestly. It's the potential that's there.
Here are some old pictures of my 65

Thanks for the information. I sent him and email and I hope he has one:)
I need a new one. I tried to weld this one, but not happy with it. It goes to my top loader shifter linkage.

I can understand your reasoning for the price now. It does sound like a nice car and the pictures looked pretty good.
When I found the vin on my motor I had to really scrub to find it. I took all the grease AND paint off to find the vin#
I think there is a real mixed message about if there is a vin or not on ALL the hipo motors? These guys here would probably know better than most. The vin is very lightly stamped on my block so it took a lot to find it.
Good luck with the car, I hope you buy it!
Is there a specific paint code for the dash color? I would like to use my gun to spray it. I would like to use PPG if possible?
What work still needs to be done? Did the new owner fix any rust issues that you were worried about. How much more did he put into the car to ask a higher price? I think if you buy a different car that you would grow an attachment to that cat too? Look around to see what's out there. How much is he asking?
It seems that I read a post somewhere about welding a Z bar to make it stronger? Is there any information on this? Thanks
Are the main caps on a Mexican 302 block the same as a 289 hipo? Will they fit on a 289 motor that's not a hipo?
This motor is about 45 min. from my house.
It is a rare chance to find and own a numbers matching Kar. I am tying to figure out a way to keep it. I have a Cameo truck that I am trying to sell. If I can sell that, then I should be good.
Fred, I like your thinking:)

I have wrestled with this in recent years and made the decision to hold onto my car. As time goes by it's getting harder to find cars that are in one piece, and the cost of putting one back together continues to climb with the cost of original parts. If you're looking for a driver then let it go. If you're passionate about K codes I would weigh in favor of keeping it.

See, I love the fact that I have an original car that's complete AND it's a K code car, I won't lie. I can just go down and stare at the car and enjoy it, so does that make me passionate about it, probably so lol
Maybe the answer is to find a way to buy the other fastback and do with it what I want. I still look at my kcode as an investment weather people think it's one or not.
I restore cars for my buddy, mostly Old Corvettes and he keeps asking about my car. If I let him buy it, I could still finish the car and he would pay me. I could buy this other C code fastback and really make it a nice driver.
Restricted is a good word. It's like I don't to ruin a piece of history that's complete.
So my early 65 Fastback is numbers matching, but the motor needs rebuilt. I have done almost all the body work and it's ready for paint. I am struggling with maybe selling it?
I really don't want to sell it, but it would be nice to pay up some bills and I could pick up another fastback that I know of that's a C code, that I could modify how I want.
Anyone else struggle with this?
Can I ask what it costs to have him redo them?
Thanks Fred, I ended up not keeping it. I do need to do something with mine, as it is pretty beat up. I guess I can use it and see what else I can find down the road. The handle on mine works fine, I was just trying to get everything done inside the car so that I didn't have to touch it anymore and I could just deal with the exterior and motor stuff.
