The block in my car has a the stamp 5F7J, very close to your Mustang's motor. I'm curious to know how close the date on the door tags match up to my car? My car is 09T. I've been told that this date may not correctly define the true roll-off date, or production date, but I'm still curious about cars with dates close to mine. By the way my car is a Dearborn car.
Matt
Hi Matt,
My GT fastback is a dearborn kar and has an 01T date on the tag. Spoke to Kevin Gormley yesterday. He is listed in the credits in the 4th edition. He said it is true that the tag date was just a scheduled build date. With the explosion of orders for Mustangs in 1965, it is very likely our kars were actually built days or weeks after that date so... the June 4th date on my block does not mean the engine is not original to the car.

Do you have a NOS fuel pump filter canister? How about a 65 intake manifold?
-
OK....$60 takes them plus freight...used less then 1000 miles. You won't be dissapointed. Just trying to clean stuff out of my garage. More to come. Ed

Looks like a 9" rear to me. The axle housing ends are tapered.

Thanks Marv...Ralph confirmed what you thought under Research...Ed
Quote from SPECIAL EDAbout half way through the book. Excellent! Thanks to all who contributed. On page 6 it states there is a date stamped on the block on a boss on the front drivers side of block. I found it and it reads "5F4T". Can someone decode this date for me? Thanks, Ed
5 is 1965, F is June, 4 is the 4th of June.
The T, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it is a code for the employee who assembled the engine?? I'm sure there are some of you out there that know for sure what the T is, so if I'm wrong, please correct me.

Thanks Ralph. Another thing about dates that I found interesting in the 4th edition was the fact that the date on the warranty tag was the scheduled build date and not nessarily the actual build date. So it is possible that my K was built days or even weeks after the date on the w.tag ?

2 front and 2 rear. Used but in excellent condition. $75 for all 4. Thanks, Ed

I have a set of KYB shocks in excellent condition that I took out of 66 convertible to put in the NAPA shocks. Personal preference..I don't like white shocks and the NAPA's look more original to me. Lots of folks use the KYB's though. I will sell all 4 KYB's for $75. Ed

Hello Colorado and Welcome!
Not a GT but looks like an original Pony interior car which is most desirable. Disc brakes? Couldn't see the m. cylinder. Looks nice and straight. Should be a fun restoration Best of luck and congratulations! Ed

Got it today!! Just about ready to sit down and take it all in...Thanks Marv!!

I found the shocks sold at NAPA to be good quality at a fair price. Their appearance is the closest I have seen to the originals. You can even choose between gas or hydraulic. They come in blue but I paint them black. Wish I could find original AUTOLITE shock decals. When I had a 66 convertible I kept them blue because they look so good with the blue engine.

Nothing for me yet.

There are a couple of bends in the carbboard that allow it to collapse. They are on the sides of the box and fold inward if my memory serves me.
Yes .. you are correct. The best way to do this is to first remove the glove box door..then the hinge bracket. Disconnect and remove the
flasher switch assembly,if present. Then remove the screws that secure the cardboard box. Fold the sides of the box inward by compressing the box on both sides until it can be removed from the front. Now you have clear access to the heater box. Box is installed in reverse order.

On page 10-74 in the '65 shop manual under carburetor application (Taxi) is referenced next to two 200 engine versions. Was there a Mustang taxi?

I change the oil and filter in the fall at storage time so that no contaminants in the oil are left behind. Byproducts of combustion produce acids in the oil which will harm the inner metal surfaces.
Do you change the oil again in the spring?
