I think Dan is specifically referring to kars. And I agree, many kars have been advertised the last few months on eBay that have not been mentioned and discussed. The discussion is the part we all learn from as well as keeping track of kars not in the registry.

Does the data plate look like a repro? The date of 13F is basically a month off of the build date based on the sequential 196108. Should more likely be 13G based on the sequential numbers. It is interesting to note that the registry has this kar listed and there is also a 5F08K169108 with the same data plate info but no DSO axle and trans. Has the date of 13F. Something doesn't quite fit. I realize these actual build date and data plate date can be off, but a whole month!

Can someone tell me the distance from the center of the top rear shackle bolt to the center of the top rear tail pipe hanger hole in the rear frame rail? Same distance on both frame rails I assume? I am restoring my early October '64 K fastback and would like to put the Arvinode system on it. Thanks.

If the vin on the repro tag is correct, then your car would have a build date of approximately 13A or January 13, 1965. The March 24 date (24Q) would have a vin of 5F09K671XXX or higher.

Can someone post the link or the eBay auction number for this engine? Thanks.

David,
Terrific! Hope to see you and your kar at the Fenton car cruise sometime this spring or summer. First friday of every month. I'm almost always there with my red GT fastback.

According to my records, this kar sold for $20,000 in October 2007 and yes, a standard 289 with a Borg Warner T10.

Are the hipo rocker arms identical to stock 289 rocker arms? I've seen the thread discussing replacement rockers but am interested in original rockers and any specifics pertaining to them. Also, how do you determine maximum wear on the rockers? Thanks for your input. Alex

VIN according to seller is 5F08K750426. His decoding of the data plate does not match the one given in the Hipo registry. He states 76B X 69, the registry lists 76A J D5, the remaining codes 09T 89 5 5 are the same on both listings. Probably a repro tag, especially since the claim of dealer added GT package is made.

Using the registry and making an educated guess, the body tag numbers listed in the ad match 5F09K648424.
Email response to my question says vin is stamped on block.
Kar is almost as nice as my red on red GT!

In September, I bought a restored original, high profile style, for $308. I think that was a good deal. Bought it on eBay. It was restored and sold by Gary the Tachman.

Scott didn't list the year or plant where the car was assembled, so how would you know it is close to your vin? The sequential number Scott lists exist in '65 and '66 and for different production plants. Maybe you are assuming the first two digits can't be read and then it wouldn't matter?

I wanted to publicly congratulate John Murphy, aka Murf, for having his '66 Towne Top convertible featured in January's Mustang Monthly. Not a K code, but, a very unique car. As will all of Murf's restorations, absolutely stunning! Congratulations!

Check out this recently sold S1MS Cobra intake.

Relative to this one, $1000 seems cheap.

I keep my own database and I also have the Mustang Production Guide. The following are some vins and date codes:
5r07T179097 26A
5r09C179162 28A
5r09C179476 28A
5r09C179682 28A
5r09A180101 29A
From these numbers and dates one would conclude that your kar would have had a scheduled build date of 28A, January 28th. I should mention that when one looks at these databases, the build dates don't always follow the sequential numbers in the expected order. This seems to be especially true of K codes since they were special order kars in many cases. This has been touched upon in other posts.
