Interior code 69 is for palomino luxury interior, D2 references the white w/blue luxury interior. Seems to me your kar should have a palomino (tan) carpet to match the palomino luxury (pony) interior.

What a scam! Sure looks like a repro tag to me; not to mention the build date on the tag is 11D and should be closer to 11B. Getting a title is easy.

I agree. I've got a 9" rear end just like yours and mine is also out of a 59 Ford.

Gary,
Can you take a picture and post for all to see?
Thanks, Alex

Looked at this kar last Friday. It's at midamericaclassicmustang in St. Charles, (St. Louis) Missouri. Kar has vin on engine and transmission. Incorrect carb, has 5ZF converted to manual choke. Hydraulic cam, to be changed?? Repo hipo fan, new radiator. Correct damper. Starts right up and idles well; I did not drive it. Dealer is asking $21,995 and I'm sure it will end up on eBay. Can look at it more closely if anyone is interested.

I know it's not a hipo mustang, but, check out this story "Serendipity" at the SAAC website. Free access to all for the time being.

My database shows 5 kars from San Jose. The one you list plus two others listed in the 4th edition 5R07K101416 and 5R07K102292. The other two are 5R07100244 65A V 46 14G 72 9 5 and 5R07K101418 65A P 89 22G 71 8 5.

Looks like reserve not met.

Interesting how many of these sellers don't seem willing to lower their expectations for these kars. This seems to be holding true for other early nice mustangs as well and muscle and collector cars in general.
-
Agreed, I also thought the paperwork looked suspect.

In your original ad for the kar you listed a hipo block with a vin stamped on it. Just curious, what happened to the block?
-
I'd be interested in the metal tag. Let me know what you want for it. Thanks, Alex

Charles,
Is your vin lightly stamped and are numbers/letters widely spaced? Can you and others comment on the vin stamping and where it was built? The one Dearborn kar I've seen was very lightly stamped and was stamped into the block without any prior grinding of the block. The K I just sold has a San Jose block with numbers stamped clearly and fairly close together and is stamped on the textured block. Has anyone seen the vin stamped on a block with the background appearing to have been ground?. I've recently seen a clear picture of a San Jose k coupe with this smooth stamping. This raises a red flag for me; however, the block is dated spot on to the vin and the numbers/letters do appear to be Ford correct.

This was my k until a few days ago. Fabulous kar. Idles perfectly, runs great. Fan is a repro, dual point is date coded 1970, alternator pulley not sure if it's original or repro. VIN on block is from San Jose coupe. Correct heads, intake, carb and headers. Balancer appears to be correct. Air cleaner top and bottom appear to be original. All original and correctly dated sheet metal on kar except for short driver side rear pan. Original paint bottom of hood and in trunk. Has a few minor imperfections in paint. Presents very well.
I would ask Mark to drop the oil pan to check the main caps, something I never did. Even though I know Mark and his shop has done work for me, I am not involved in the sale but would be glad to answer any questions. Don't know where Mark came up with the "restoration" comments. I never told him any of that.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the kar. It is perfect! Way to go John!

First two pictures are just what I needed! Thanks a lot. Many of us will benefit.

April 13 scheduled build date, factory GT, Dearborn plant. The mount is in the rear and the frame rails do have the re-enforcement within the rail. Vin: 5F09K694922

"Start of production until 10/15/64: transverse duals.
10/15/64 until 3/22/65: Arvinode."
Is the 10/15/64 date for the end of transverse to beginning of Arvinode locked in stone?
Also, I know the Arvinode has been discussed extensively, and thanks to you Dave in paricular for recreating the system. The setup on my fastback is long gone. What are the differences in rear frame rail exhaust hanger placement between the transverse system and the Arvinode? Do these differences even exist? Sorry, if I've changed the discussion somewhat. Thanks, Alex

Isn't that six really an 8 making the vin 5F08K31081x. Both 8's appear similar. Maybe he forgot to stamp the last number?
