Reason I ask is I have an opportunity to buy an original am/fm monotone unit from late 1965 and will need it restored/repaired to work once I get it.

I'm trying to find out what the best way/method of cleaning up my timing cover, intake manafold, and oil pan for re-painting/restoration: I somehow don't think sandblasting is the right way espessely on the timing cover and oil pan--I also need to do the bell housing and fan spacer, Thanks!

Anyone have any experiance with a company that restores/repairs original Ford radios rather they are am only or the ultra-rare original am/fm mono units??

Thats what I was thinking as well, Bob, and BTW YOUR BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Any idea what vehicle it is in?? that MAY help

What would be the best bet for an oil pump for a stock rebuilt 289HP, I heard years ago that they could benefit from a high volume pump???
-
For one thing.....the dime store steering wheel-(lol,lol)

Thanks for all the replies! and suggestions! I've seen the ones on Ebay, and I wonder if they or any other "old" spark plugs in general can go "stale" sitting on the shelf?
-
Can I buy a NEW Autolite plug for my 1965 "K" engine that is equivallant to the old BF 32?? if so, does anyone know the new number?? Thanks!

Thanks, Charles, You are the Man!!!!

I need to know what the proper finish should be on my July 1965 "K" Convertible from the Dearborn plant for the "Z" bar and its bracket, as well as the linkages both top and bottom and the spring as well. Thanks!

Thanks, Bob!! I just went and ordered your book!!! I think it will be very usefull as I rebuild my 1965 289HP "K" engine.
So, I can then just go to a quality parts store such as NAPA and ask for 289 pushrods and I will automaticly get hardened ones??
-
So, Should I seek out Hardened pushrods?? original or aftermarket??
Any suggestions as where to begin to look??

I spoke to the shifter expert (Bill Heeley) on Friday and sent him my shifter for rebuilding....Real Nice personable guy, I might add!!
Anyway I asked for HIS recomendation on a suitable rebuilder for my Toploader, and HE HIGHLY RECOMENDED David Kee-said that many years ago that DAN WILLIAMS sold DAVID KEE about 20 imput shafts with bearings that were manufactured out of round and caused KEE lots of trouble which HE ATE all the repairs and shipping just to maintain his reputation--So, guess where MY Toploader is going?? To Texas, to David Kee!! Just thought I'd pass this on!!

There is a small notation in Tony's book regarding that some folks say that the pushrods used in a HYPO 289 are hardened....I am wondering if this is true?? I just spoke with my Brother-In-Law who owned my "K" Convertible in early 1973 until he gave it to me in 1984 and he told me that he'd had lots of problems with bending pushrods and the "standard" 289 pushrods were worse and didn't last long---he also told me of running Avgas (aircraft High Octane gasoline) alot and the folks that he got it from cautioning him about the consequences of using it--I wonder if THAT GASOLINE caused the engine to turn harder than it really should have and bend the pushrods??

Thanks, Tater!!!!

I also have a back up plan in the form of an early 70s HD C4 for/from a Truck application, and IF I have to resort to an automatic in my '65 which we all know is incorrect I am not concerned about getting it to look like a HYPO C4 at all, just so it works!

Would anyone have Chuck at Distributor Dynamics phone number?? I have tried searching but can't seem to find it, Thanks!

I spoke, yesterday to a guy at Arizona Brake & Clutch,(Larry no longer works there) and I had to explain to him exactly what clutch discs were and what pressure plates were (almost literaly) I told him I needed to get my setup rebuilt, he asked me what kind of clutch it was (name brand) I told him it WAS THE original and it was for/from a 1965 Mustang 289 High Performance 271 horse power solid lifter "K" code engine which almost blew his mind!!! he wasn't a kid by his voice either.
He said $75.00 for the plate & $58.00 for the disc, I went ahead & sent it out there but I am kind of leary-I will advise what happened when I get my stuff back!

I can relate to this as the commercial printing company I have worked for for the last 9 years closed the doors 2 weeks ago Tuesday.
I am not quite in the middle of my restoration project, my Wife says we must finish what we started, we are not rich by any means, but have never lived beyond our means, so we should be ok.
