Just got back from taking the engine, trans, rear end and parts up to Nate & company, Boy, was I ever impressed with the work that I finally was able to see in person!!! their workmanship is impeckable!!(sp) and I had asked for a high gloss mirror gloss finish and thats exactly what I got!! (I asked for no "factory" orange peel-its MY car!)I would highly recomend these guys to anyone needing a restoration done without reservation!!!!

I have 8 original 289 HP pistons from my "K" engine that had to be bored .030 (had to buy new pistons)
The originals look ok to me but haven't cleaned them up yet.
I don't want a whole lot for them but if anyone can use them let me know.

There are mixed opinions of Kurt on some other descussions on this site, some are ok with his work, some aren't.
He, as many know was an employee of PONY CARBS until they moved to New Mexico-he stayed behind and has attempted to duplicate what PONY does with carbs but I personally don't believe he has it yet.
I recently bought a HIPO CLONE carb from Jon @ PONY and it was about $100. more than your asking price and to me well worth it.
I think Kurt should either make your carb right or take it back & refund your money!
To adjust your air/fuel mixture:run the screws all the way in and then back out 2 1/2 turns then start engine and turn out or in until you get the highest idle possible on each screw.
As far as linkage binding that might mean alot of things such as warped throttle plate, ar bent linkage.

I have also wondered why no one has made the motor mounts yet, I am thinking about seeing what a welding/fab shop would take to make the pieces using mine as a template.
-
Richard: If you had looked under either car you would have been equally impressed!! Nate & his Dad & staff do a real great job!!
They are currently doing my '65 "K" convertible, its almost ready for paint, and I will be traveling from Florida to his place in Ohio to take my engine and transmission & rear end up to be reunited with the car over the July 4th weekend.

Did you guys see the Gold '64.5 Coupe & Convertible shown by Buckeye Auto Restoration-(Nate Miller)?? what did you think??
-
The ones I got were just like the ones pictured above.
-
Very well!!! Thanks Again & Extreeme KUDOS to Fred for all the legwork on this for all of us!!!
-
BOB, This is terrible news! I purchased your GREAT book to aid me in rebuilding/restoring my '65 "K" convertible, what can we do to help you to get the word out about your book??
-
Yes, This is great new news, Fred!!! what is the time frame as to when they all will be complete and ready to be shipped back to us?
-
Boy, I feel LUCKY!!!!!! I got a set off ebay 2 months ago for $57.00 to my door for 10-BF32 plugs WITHOUT the stars.

As usual Charles, you are right again!! I just found my OLD decoder from Mustang Monthly and IT lists the Black Pony interior in 1965 as code "66" so we are ok.
-
I printed out the decoding info from vintage-mustang back in 2004 and it does not have a code listed for the all black pony interior in 1965, I sure thought that was odd, anyone else have an opinion??
-
I am looking at my data plate decoder and am looking for the code for 1965 All Black PONY interior......I can't seem to find it....I see the code for 1966 All BLACK Pony interior is "66" anyone know the code for the All BLACK PONY interior for 1965?? Thanks!

I have met Vince Harwood a couple of years ago when I was looking for a good restoration shop in my area, and though he knows more about Cougars than I do he is by far no Mustang expert!
He is more of a shirt and tie businessman that he explained to me that he had an opportunity to buy 6 large utility trailers full of Mustang parts and so he did and went into the Mustang business with very very little knoledge.
I wouldn't trust him or his staff to restore a 6 cylinder Mustang!

Oscart, Hey, Thanks for the link!! Thats great!! my machine shop guy says we really should find thicker head gaskets.....and now I'm not so sure we really need them.
-
Thanks guys for all the replies! I feel much better now! my machine shop guy was a little concerned about the final compression ratio.
He is able to get exact replacement aftermarket HIPO 289 pistons in the .030 size, and he has already had to cut about .015 off the heads to get them true.
-
Would anyone have a guesstimate as to what the compression ratio would be in a '65 HIPO 289 that was bored to .030 over using stock replacement pistons, and milling the heads .015???? would this bring the compression ratio up to high for "pump premimum fuel"??
-
Yea, The logo really doesn't look right to me and the guy at VA Mustang said thats how the logos were back then and that it was taken from an original to make this decal many years ago.
At lease it doesn't say MoFoCo!!
