The car IS NOT registered on our site, anyone know anything about it! $33K seems cheap for this car if its all original numbers matching block and trans and freshly restored....

In reading all of this I wonder where all the originals went from the cars? it would seem that even if someone installed a different engine into a K code that they would still use the same mounts....will these mounts work in any other Ford product such as Fairlanes, Falcons, Mavericks???

Did anyone else see the Prairie Bronze '65 K Coupe go through B-J last night? it sold for $33k with something like 17K original miles and just restored.....I haven't looked at the B-J site for the car & VIN yet.....Is the car owned by a member here?

65Shelby: You have a very rare car indeed!! very cool to hear about it! I saw the car (the famous "05C" car) when it was about 1/2 taken apart....it is really something to see.....the owner is a very rich Corvette collector and got the Mustang as part of a deal to get 2 Corvettes-the way I understand it is that he really didn't want the Mustang at all but went ahead and did the deal not knowing what he was getting and chances are the previous owner didn't know what the car was either....the way I understand it also is the car was restored using all NOS or refirbished original parts and absolutely NO reproduction parts.......
I also heard that the owner requested that the engine never be started like all his 'Vettes.........

My restorer had some of these made in leather by the Amish folks in Ohio-I know that leather is not really correct but mine sure looks great and I think I like the leather idea better than the old tire rubber......and it looks the same to me....

Here is a little update:The car in this article was one that was to have been in the Doc:

Boy, You learn something new everyday!! so I guess then that we all have 289 Clevelands-(LOL)
Now I am wondering what color the floor tile is in the Hopkins airport?
-
Whoops....I just re-read the original post...."Cleveland"?? I thought that in 1965-66 the Mustangs were only produced at Dearborn, San Jose, and Metcheun..........??
-
So its not possible to have a '65 GT with a build date in lets say December '65??
-
I think this solid rod style was also used in other Ford applications back in the 60s, I've seen the same non-adjustible one on early 60s Econoline vans and even some Fseries trucks.....I don't think they are unique to Mustangs, but am unsure now IF the HIPO Z bar required a special length one.....
-
kevin Marti sure makes nice repros......
-
Charles, This is good to know!! I can't understand why the solid one has been so hard to reproduce.....it would seem to me that it would be easier than the adjustible one....
-
I have returned the dime store vr and ordered and now received a Standard Motor Parts (Blue Streak) vr #VR166X, the extreem high end one.
THIS is the one I'm going to swap the reproduction cover over to...what do I use for fasteners? the repro one has a type of pin thing that spreads like a cotter pin on the back to hold the cover on, and many say the '65s all used a simple sheet metal screw to hold the cover on which would make sense if you needed to adjust the points.....
-
OK, then exactly what ARE the "reinforcement plates? I always thought that the ones that go behind the rear seat were the plates we are speaking of.....have you looked at the picture in the VA catalog? can you show a pic of what you believe the plates to be?
-
The lower rod is a solid, non-adjustible on '65s as the adjustment is on the upper rod that goes from the "Z" bar to the pedal, I have looked in various Mustang parts catalogs and the solid piece is evedentally a bit hard to come by as the ones that list it say "call" in the price column and says "from 8/20/1964" if you are not real concerned about being 100% correct original the later one that IS adjustible is readily available for around $15.00......
I am curious now as to what the earlier cars used??
-
Guys, I think the plates we are talking about here are in the VA Mustang catalog on page 104 part number EH-661 and sell for $7.95 per pair.......

Fred, Thanks very much for YOUR reply as well! I am just toying around a bit for when I am finished showing my car and will be driving it some on the weekends, I think the brakes are more than adiquite (sp) now-and like I said I just like having something a bit different without cutting a vehicle up to do it.
Did you just leave the left shock tower brace off your car then? I have probably seen the export brace on many cars but can't place what it looks like.
Did you use the 7 Liter Galaxie DISC brake m/c on your car? I've seen them at the shows and thought they were basicly the same m/c as our manual ones, and thought IT would be the best one to try & make fit the Mustang booster.
I have an original '65 booster & brackets that needs a complete rebuild as its all rusted out.....are the aftermarket replacements such as SS Brakes corp any different?
Like I say I know that the brakes on my car are all new and once I get then blead properly they WILL require more pressure to stop than drum brakes-I completely understand that....I once bought a 1988 base model Ranger pickup with MANUAL discs and IT was a bit tough to stop so I put a booster on that, and I really don't remember any early Mustang with manual discs requiring as much pressure to stop as it did....this is a just for fun project for someday.....
-
Charles, Thanks for your reply as always.
bigal, Sorry, my car is not for sale.

As my post started "JUST FOR FUN" I have absolutely NO intention of cutting anything to make this PROPOSED setup fit my car!
I absolutely would never do that! and IF I do it will be several years down the road after I get all the awards I'm after for my Kar.
For the record my car has not even been on the ground here in Florida since April when I picked it up in Charlotte! so I have not driven it besides the 1/4 mile to the show feild and the 1/4 mile back to my trailer so I really don't know if the darn brakes are ok or not, it has been said that a system with DOT 5 fluid is hard to bleed due to bubbling, and I believe that because the pedal is very spongy-all this has nothing to do with the fact I like to have something different than the next guy and think it would be neat to engineer the booster setup in.
