Thanks Fred!! I kinda thought that there was more to it than the kit I found.

Here is the bushing kit for '65-'73 Mustangs at VA Mustang:

I would think that powdercoating would work as well-just need to make sure you get the correct sheen and texture...
My top frame was Electro-coated and sure looks great and just like the original!

I am hoping that our friend earlyk will see this and chime in: He knows how to refinish the convertible frames very well and very correctly, I might add.
The frames were originally Electro-coated as powder coating wasn't invented yet-he has the facilities to do electro coating at his shop, and he most likely will be able to help with info on the bushings too.

Great going Brant!!! Nice looking piece!! anouther feather in the VA Mustang cap!!
-
Seems like mine was $225.00 including shipping both ways IIRC for a COMPLETE rebuild, adjustment, and rechromed handle, new boot installed and new know too!!
-
+2 on Bill Heeley!!!! he has a "swap-out" program on the chrome handles-he usually has rebuilt and rechromed ones in stock and just swaps out with the ones sent him with shifters for rebuilding-I certainly wasn't sentimental about that part of my shifter when I sent it to him and its just easier in the long run-Bill is THE man when it comes to Ford shifters for sure!!

Thanks guys for the replies and pictures!! The '65 one looks exactly like the one Charles sent me......I believe he said that they were CLEAR in '65-'66-I know the current repros are White.....I'm hoping Charles will stop by and render an opinion.......
(I do realize that a 45 year old piece of plastic will have discolored and or gotten milky from UV exposure, and again I feel that anything reproduced today in clear will have far superior UV inhibitors in it.

What kind/brand of exhaust system is everyone running now?
-
I got a very nice reproduction late '65-'66 system from Motive Industries for my K GT and I am very happy with it so far....anyone else have a Motive system?
-
Got it, THANKS!!

Bill Heeley Olney, MD is the shifter man
+1!!!! Bill is a really GREAT guy and a GREAT, HONEST businessman!!
He rebuilt my original shifter for my K code and after receiving it he called and went on for 5 solid minutes about just how virgin/original it was, stated that it had never been apart, adjusted, or messed with in any way, and that there was virtually NO wear on it to speak about! he himself, being the Ford shifter guru couldn't believe what he was seeing-said it had been a LONG time since he's seen one this nice-the car was my Brother-In-Law's and he did all the same stuff we all did back in the day in street racing and hot rodding and all but somehow the shifter survived in this shape, BILL cleaned up my shifter beutifully and rebuilt it, exchanged my chrome handle (per his system) and returned it to me with a new boot installed and a new knob too, and sent it back BEFORE I paid him!! I called him and asked what I owed him and he said just what was on his invoice inside the box and whatever shipping charge was shown on the box, what a guy!!!
This all said, I certainly understand someone not wanting to buy unnessery parts or pieces to save on costs, no harm, no foul.

Anyone running a K&N element in your original filter housing for driving purposes?? may be anouther brand of re-useable filter?
-
Anyone remember that Black oil filter that someone had and sold on Ebay a couple of years ago?? there was a stamp on it in Yellow ink I think......I would like to try & have a stamp made of that so I could add it to my Black filter.....
I went and did a search and found the actual listing, but due to the time that has gone by since then the picture is gone.

We thinking it is a re-body??

Guys, Thanks for the replies!! The originals ARE clear, I thinmk the one in the kit might be a "service replacement" from Ford, but the '65-'66 came with clear from the factory.
Charles sold and sent me a real nice (used) original about a year ago and trying to install it into the cheapo reproduction hoses that was the only choice back then it broke and I had to put the white repeo back in.
Lots of the originals have turned a yellow/milky kind of color with time, but I'll bet there is a better plastic on the market today to make these things from so they will stay truely clear longer.
Charles suggested putting the one he sent me in some Hydrogen-Peroxide to brighten/clear it up again.

I sympathize with your discontent, but in this particular case, in my opinion, sooner or later the springs will need replacement & you will be better off replacing them as a set with the washers.
Z.
+1, I agree 100% with ZRay! Bill Heeley has these parts packaged like this for a reason and believe it or not I don't feel its money oriented.

171 views and no one has an original "T" they could spare me so I can have them reproduced correctly?? I think I found a maker here locally.
