Unless you bought high-dollar Shelby tri-Y repro headers don't be surprised if you have alignment problems with aftermarket headers. You see a lot of them instlled with "custom" hammer dents to force them to fit.

Ending the year with the installation of my new motor. Thanks to Charles Turner for fielding many questions. Also thanks to Marv, Moneymaker and Jeff Speegle.
Matching numbers, L5, all stock except for the fan spacer which is a Ford part that works with the 4 row radiator. Pony did the carb, Chuck Barbero did the distributor and I did the rest. The oil pressure gauge was for spinning oil pressure on the stand. The motor was all there with original VIN, carb and engine tags. Fresh bottom end and all NOS valve train with Marv's cam. Concessions made with Comp Cams poly locks, double roller chain and porting the exhausts to match the manifolds. The pic with the manifold gasket is for illustration; exhaust manifold gaskets were not installed. The cam timing was right on the money with the timing card.

You might want to call Diamondback. I only remember there being one style of dual red line when I bought mine, and as mentioned earlier, they are based on the Firestone radials.
Pulled my invoice and it says "Supreme Dual Redline Tire".

Damon,
The second VIN on the driver side nearest the windshield is typically covered by the top of the fender. The number that is running perendicular to the VIN is the date code of the fender panel.

I agree with Meryln on the Diamondbacks. If you enjoy driving the car then the flimsy bial ply tires take the fun out of entering a turn. I have the 205/70R14 Diamondbacks on 14x6 repro SS rims and it works very well. Ditto on the shows; people that have never seen them want to know where they came from. If you call Diamondback you can speak with them at the main office and they'll answer all your questions. When I was doing my research it seemed like the Coker tires weren't quite as close to the originals in appearance.

Wow! I don't recall ever seeing one go for the starting bid and the BIN price is off the charts.

Are any registry members planning on taking their cars to the Wild West Mustang Nationals this summer?
"Wild West Mustang Nationals, a Mustang Club of America national event co-hosted by the Bay Area Mustang Association and Diablo Valley Mustang Association at the Buchanan Field Airport. Host hotel is the Crowne Plaza Hotel. MCA judged show, vendors, and local attractions."

You're right. No math necessary as fourth gear is 1:1.

Now if I just had a GT350 to put this tag on I would be very happy!
Holiday special: buy the Shelby diff tag for $150K and they'll give you a free GT350.
Good to hear you can get the logo on the repro tags.

Although there are Ford licensing agreements in place with many vendors there are certain trademarks that Ford won't allow reproduced on parts. I don't know any of the nuances of this rule, but I have heard from different parts suppliers. Pony Carbs said they can't use Fomoco on tags while back. This was supposed to be the reason they were putting Autolite on all the repro carb tags. In their case it may have been their own situation with respect to licensing. Perhaps Ford will allow licensed products, but not licensed tags because they could be applied to products built by others.

I don't know about 66 but this is from a 65. Maybe it will help you out.

I agree with what Lyle has said and think there are a couple of answers to the matching numbers question.
Matching Numbers: Based on all that we know Ford tried to put the VIN on the high performance cars in 5 places: three stampings on the inner fenders, the motor and the trans. Some cars lack VINs on the motors or the transmissions, but given the age of the cars that's not surprising if something was replaced along the way. However; for a car to have matching numbers it really should have all 5 vehicle identification numbers.
Matching Date Codes: Having the date codes match is equally important, but a car can have matching vehicle ID numbers and still lack matching date codes. Body parts, engine components, etc. get changed through the years with service replacement parts. The car may not be date code correct, but if they are Ford service parts the car is fundmentaly all Ford.
I know that my car has all 5 VINs, but there has been some minor body work done with Ford service parts that aren't date code correct. I'm not losing any sleep over it, and I'm not tearing the car apart looking for earlier parts to replace the later date codes I found. I view Ford service replacement parts as part of the history of the car. Someone made the effort to obtain a Ford part when something wore out along the way.
The restoration of lost or missing VIN numbers on fenders, motors and transmissions is definitely another topic.

You can order it on line, but they won't fill your order. Mine showed up with a backorder listed and then they called to say it was not in print.

Ford had vibration complaints and the braces were added after production started. There was supposed to be a TSB (technical service bulletin) issued when they started the change. I've never seen the publication but one of the convertible owners here might be able to help you find a copy.

Unique part numbers will be stamped, but not tagged on the distributor and fuel pump as well.

Would yours be a November 30 foundry date assembled January 12th? That's about five weeks after casting and mine was about two weeks after casting. I don't know that there is anything odd about either of these given the robust sales that Ford was enjoying at the time. Mannel has similar examples in his book. It is good to hear that the markings are consistent for San Jose. With the various plants involved where would the engine assembly have taken place? You have the foundry, the machining and the assembly, three different processes.
