You will likely get a lot of answers to this one, but one of the reasons that Shelby used the Holleys was the center pivot float bowls for cornering.

For $125K you'd think they'd get the trumpets centered.

Does anyone know of any other spot on the unibody that the vin. is stamped othe than the front apron ???????? 1965 John 585-330-4957
There are three VINs stamped in the unibody, two on the driver side and one on the passenger side. Two of the three are on the inner aprons and are generally covered by the fenders, though not always. The alignment when stamped was not always perfect, so it is not uncommon to find the VIN misaligned with the notch on the driver side.

The prototypes based on the original Arvin plans will be shipped this week and test fitting will take place next week. Joe is preparing to order materials for his first production run. If you are genuinely interested get in touch with Waldon's Antique Exhaust and have them put you on the list. He doesn't have the price compete yet because he's still working with the clamp manufacturer.

Original C5ZZ-5260-D with tire (whitewall, no less) used as insulator shown with a piece of new 4" wide neoprene conveyor belt rubber available from Rubber-Cal. Same look without having to cut up old tires to get there.

The gold zinc dichromate caps were supplied as stock items and were either left natural or painted black, depending on who the supplier was at the time.

Dang! Sorry Bo. -

You can buy rubber in strips that is the same thickness as the pads, and also the same thickness as the original tires that were used for muffler hangers.

You are right - that's a typo.

I believe that part number is the push on. Mannel's book has part numbers for all of them.

The images aren't too clear, but they look correct.

I am in touch with the original owner of my car and recently discussed that with him. The car has the original flat lid assembly with a blue (yes, blue, not gold) base.
SJ car.
12/30/64 scheduled build date.
12/17/64 engine assembly date.
Delivered to the Eagle Rock, CA dealership on Jan. 7th, 65.
65A air cleaner with flat lid and blue base.

Is the car you are asking about a K code?

After reviewing the various drawings it is clear that the system on the Mustangs and Fairlanes was named the Arvinode. The earlier statment that the system was named Resonode was incorrect and was based on 45 years of recollection by Jim Abbott, who built countless prototypes for Arvin during the 37 years he worked there.
Waltdron Antique Exhaust is going to produce 40 sets in the first run, which should be done some time in April. Joe is running into a problem finding a small lot manufacturer to do the hangers. If anyone has experience with a metal shop that can press small quantities of stamped steel please get in touch with me or Joe so we can explore the capabilities. The cost of producing dies that match the original parts may end up being cost probhibitive to get an identical match.
On June 17, 1964 Ben Irwin applied for patent 3,263,772 for another quarter wave system that more closely resembles the one that went into production. Based on Bob Mannel's Fairlane research, the first image is typical of the system found on Fairlanes with a quarter wave tube in the resonator. The second image is more typical of what was found in the Mustang front muffler, though not identical in shape. It should be noted that sizing of the quarter wave tube and the various louvers took quite a bit of trial and error on the dyno to get them dialed in.

That kind of fading is more typical of carb cleaner. Perhaps the assembly was cleaned in an effort to shine it up.

I contacted Buddy Bar in 2006 to ask about valve covers. Here is the response from John Fell at Buddy Bar:
QuoteDisplay MoreDAVE,
WE AT BUDDY BAR DID MAKE THE PANS & VALVE COVERS FOR FORD AND SHELBY IN THE 60S & 70S USING FOMOCO TOOLING.
THE ORIG.TOOLING WAS REMOVED FROM OUR SHOP ABOUT 1972.
THE TOOLING WAS LOW PRODUCTION “WOOD” PATTERNS AND AT THAT TIME WAS NOT USEABLE.
I WOULD STEER YOU TO A.T. FRANCES IN PALM SPRINGS CA. (BLUE THUNDER) HE HAS BY FAR THE BEST REPRODUCTION OF BOTH PANS & VALVE COVERS. TELL HIM I SENT YOU.
GOOD LUCK,
JOHN FELL

Never heard of over-the-counter being non-buddy bar, but Jeff could probably confirm that.
I have a set of non-Buddy Bar open letter Cobra covers that were bought by the original owner of my car OTC from the Ford dealer in Eagle Rock, CA. I've often wondered how many vendors were making them for Ford, of if Buddy Bar just dropped the name inside the castings.

They're on ebay frequently. You won't find the early type with Autolite star so easily, but the standard Autolite BF32s come up ofte and for $35-50 a set. Not too bad a premium if you consider the cost of a new set of Autolites today. Autolite sells the 45, which is what they are now substituting for the BF32, but it is a hotter spark plug than the 32.

The transverse system doesn't require special mounting holes. To determine the correct exhaust you'll need to supply the scheduled build date.
