Seller's response to questions:
THE CAR WAS SAVED WHEN THE CAR WAS BOUGHT IT HAD BEEN USED FOR A PARTS CAR FRONT DISC BARKES WERE MISSING ,BOTH FRONT SEATS ,MOTOR AND TRANS WHERE THERE ,CAR HAS NEVER BEEN HIT THAT I KNOW OF I HAVE A TON OF PICTURES FROM THE START TO THE FINISH ALL VIN NUMBER STAMPING ARE IN PLACE ON BOTH FRONT APARONS ,CAR IS RUST FREE FLOORS AND BODY PANELS OR IN GREAT SHAPE NEVER CUT ON ,YES I DO HAVE THE BRAKE CABLES AND LEVER THANK YOU
Buyer beware:
Fred is correct, visible rubber snubber over the third member is definitely not Hipo, so it's not K code body. Missing emergency brake cables and levers. Definitely Granada dics. Also note the high bead of material (welding?) along the inner fenders and shock towers.
I don't see anything to indicate it is, or ever was, a K code with factory disc brakes.
Redundancy is the key to human learning?
My 12/30/64 SJ has the VIN on the tab as Fred has mentioned.
If you are the owner of an early GT car and could provide information on your rear exhaust mounting points it would help to establish the introduction period of the straight through duals. Please provide your scheduled build date and whether or not you have the CENTER or REAR mounting point for the resontator hangers in the back.
CENTER mounts are in the center of the rear frame rail and DO NOT have inner reinforcment inside the frame rail.
REAR mounts are in the rear third of the rear frame rail and DO have the inner reinforcement inside the frame rail.
Thanks.
If we look at Ford's history of supplying parts before and after "cut-off" dates we know that it's definitely NOT cast in stone:) Quote"Is the 10/15/64 date for the end of transverse to beginning of Arvinode locked in stone?"
No difference; frame rail mounting parts are in the same place for the transverse and the Arvinode. The relocation toward the rear of the car and the frame rail reinforcements for GT dual exhaust hangers didn't happen until March of '65. Quote"What are the differences in rear frame rail exhaust hanger placement between the transverse system and the Arvinode? Do these differences even exist?"
**One study that we need to undertake relative to the GT duals is when Ford made the change from the early mounting points in the center of the frame rail to the rear of the frame rail. Logic would dictate that the change would coincide with introduction of the GT option that included the straight through GT duals. We need to include exploration of the earliest GT cars for the rear exhaust hanger mounting points and the reinforcements that are inside the frame rails.**
Motive is one of several vendors that distributes their exhaust systems through NPD. The straight through GT duals with the resonators replaced the Arvinode system in late March of '65, and there are several companie reproducing them as they are the most common Mustang dual exhuast system.
If you own a HiPo there were three possible exhaust systems:
Start of production until 10/15/64: transverse duals.
10/15/64 until 3/22/65: Arvinode.
3/22/65 through '67: straight through GT duals.
There are some conflicting dates in the Ford parts books about the transistion from the Arvinode over to the GT duals; 3/22/65 or 4/2/65. Sor far the latest car we have found with an Arvinode is from late March.
The Ford engineering plans show this style of hanger released for production on 12/21/64.
NPD for the repro. The NOS systems are not easy to find, but they're out there.
How many times has this car been on ebay in total?
You are putting so few miles on the car that it shouldn't be a problem. Fueld systems are more likely to be a problem in the long term; I put in fuel stabilizer and top of the tank at the end of each season, then start the car and let it run for a good period of time once or twice a month during the winter.
Yesterday I found myself thinking about all of the different assets that are worth a lot less than they were a year ago. Between the real estate, the 401K, and other stuff that's all worth zip in this market, how refreshing it is to go out and start the car and realize there's no way in hell I'll get rid of the K code, no matter what happens!
Zero information on the car = zero possibility of sale.
How about PDFs somewhere? Is that a viable approach?
Please send a PM to Marv or Hank and have them get in touch with the owner if they have enough info.
Testing a PCV valve is simple; listen to it when it's running, it's nothing more than a controlled vacum leak.
