Just my opinion, but replacing a vin on a car with another is no different than putting a good (salvage) serial number on a stolen vehicle.. The end result would be the same in my opinion, you are making the a vehicle into something it is not. If this is not illegal it certainly should be. Why would someone go to the trouble of cutting and replacing vin numbers unless he or she wanted to make his car appear to be something it is not. You know you can buy a "genuine" Rolex on the streets for $50, its not genuine but it says Rolex, there are people in jail for importing "knock off" items from China. I ask what is the differance??? This practice is all around bad news build a "k" clone, put the badges on it and all of the hi-po parts, leave the serial number alone.. only a small percent of the population knows what a "k" code mustang is anyway.

Signed: an owner of a genuine "K", not a "C" with a replacement Vin.....

I have a 1965 K GT Coupe project car for sale, the car has been taken apart and sandblasted, all rusty sheetmetal has been replaced. It is a bare shell, with no original Hi-po driveline items remaining. It is a true K code factory High Performance car (all 3 serial numbers on fender apron match) and factory GT with the fog light switch in the right location. Along with it goes a complete C code automatic coupe that a tree fell across, it could be fixed or turned into a convertable or something. I also have a truck load of parts, trunks, doors, fenders, glass, Non Hi-Po 9" rear, RUG Toploader 4speed trans, etc. that goes along. I am getting out of the hobby and want my garage space back. Email if interested and I will get you some pics.

I am considering selling my Jan 65 K Fastback. It has recently been repainted Original Honey Gold and has its original black interior, which may need recovered but still looks good. I have owned the car since 1986 and am the 3rd owner its a local car so I pretty much know the history. The car is 85% restored with new suspension and brake system (I have original calipers yet) and I have approximately $3000 in new parts (stainless brake and fuel lines, fuel tank, etc.) that will go with the car. The trans is a unmarked HEH-T and the engine is a Hi-Po with no Vin and has approximately 900 miles on a un-bored rebuild. The only body part replaced were the rear quarters and the only patch on the car was about a 2 inch square patch on the drivers door bottom. As I said I have owned the car for over 20 years. I have ran out of $$ for the restoration and have many other projects (house, children, and 3 other 65 mustangs) What I am looking for is approximate value so I can consider whether or not I should sell. This cars is listed in the registry.

You guys most likely have alot more mechanical ability than I do but I had the same problem on my 65 A code. I narrowed it down to the rear by jacking up off of the pumpkin and letting it idle, both rear wheels wobbled. I changed both axles and still had the wobble. After banging my head a bit I cleaned the paint off of both brake drums where they meet the wheel and the vibration went away!!! Check this before you spend alot of money, apparently 40+ years of painting the drums it can build up enough to cause a problem.. just my 2 cents, good luck.
