I am running original (never repaired) Konis on my

65 Shelby. They are all dated 4 65. Got the front ones

from a friend and they have the thick upper ring and the

rear ones I found in a box in my garage. Probably were on my car

when I bought it in 1988. Very dirty but a good cleaning,

professional paint job, adjustment and they work and look like new.

Amazing after 44 years. The Konis on my 67 have been there for 32 years. The early Konis are numbered 1326 and 1327 while the newer

are 1388 and 1389 respectively for front and rear.

I went to my garage and found the box with NOS springs

and the text says: Valve Damper Spring

    C3OZ-6513-A

    1 PKG of 8 PCS.

Measured the red marked springs and to me it looks like they are

2.04". Checked the 65 and 66 Shop Manuals and it specifies

a Free Length of 2.04" for the 289 High Performance Engine.

I checked and the book how to rebuild your small-block Ford

says in a table: Free length 2.02" and installed height 1.77".

Sorry, but maybe the information is wrong. I know the load specified

in the book says 83-89 lbs and I have written 93 as the higher value

    myself.

Have some NOS but they are the C9 type and the originals should be C3

    correct?

    Jerry,

Here in the Dallas area there used to be a guy by the name

of Pat White III who restored wire harnesses. He restored my

tail light and engine feed harnesses and did an excellent job. However, I don't think he is around anymore doing this type of work.

You are probably best off by buying from the guy specified above and do the job yourself.

    /Bo

Yes, You are correct. missed a 0, sorry.

What I do is as you said open the throttles and

pull the lever down and put the feeler gauge

in between the two. Has always worked fine on my

    3259's

    Glad you fixed your problem.

Was every Ford engine including the 289 HP individually

balanced at the factory? Didn't know that as I read a

publication in the 70's that you could exchange parts like

dampers etc. without a re-balancing needed. Two years ago I

replaced the damper on my 65 and knock on wood, so far no problems and the engine runs very smooth.

Got the radiator overflow hose and choke cable tubing

yesterday and still have the same question before I

put the radiator hose on: how long is it originally

or how far down did the originals protrude. Did over

flow water hit straight on the 45 degree angle frame

or did it go below it?

Also, does anybody have a factory picture showing how

far the choke cable tubing covered the cable shield

and where the clamp was located?

    Thanks for your help.

    /Bo

    RPM,

Didn't you ask about the bolt that holds the

spring leafs together not the clamps?

If so, please remember that the bolt for HiPo's

(65 and 66) has a longer head as the center hole

is deeper than on a 8 inch rear axle.

If the bolt with the shorter head is used the

    rear axle may move around.

Yesterday, I ordered the Radiator overflow hose and

the choke cable tubing from Jack. Talked to him for quite

a while and he is a really nice guy. He told me that the

windshield washer hoses are supposed to be ribbed but it's much too expensive to get the thinner short hose reproduced.

    /Bo

Checked again early this morning and both (different diameters) washer hoses are ribbed. Don't remember if they are the ones that were on the car when I bought or if I replaced them after buying the car in Feb. 1988. Found a complete windshield washer set in a C5

marked box in Houston many years ago and I may have used the

hoses from that kit. Looked for the box with what's left of the kit

in it this morning but haven't found it yet.

Have a feeling I saw this car yesterday at the Yellow Rose

car show in Fort Worth. Took some pictures and will look

through them today to see if this car made an enough impression to take a picture.
