Also, please remember that the ring gear on the
65 and 66 HiPo/Shelby are originally 8 3/4" and
not 9" as the 67 and up.

Hi,
-AX is for manual steering and -AW for power
steering. The only difference, to my knowledge,
is the pre-load setting.
If you use the search function you will find
a lot of information about this topic from
earlier posts.

Yes, I agree with Charles. My 65 GT350 was
put together in San Jose' around 5/7/65
and steering box is dated 5D30, heater box
Y5DD and engine assembled on 5E3.
Those part are most likely original to the car.

Hi,
I always adjust mine cold and set them to 0.022"
on both intake and exhaust. I had been told that
you must set them hot and running but after checking
my cold setting they were always 0.018 when warm and running
so I decided never to mess with the hot engine and get oil all
over my hands and engine compartment.
Have a slight memory of that we discussed this earlier on
this forum.

I think they changed from G2 to Y2
in May of 1965 as I have a 3-65 G2
and my friend has a 4-65 G2 and a
5-65 Y2.

Hi Rene,
I feel for you trying to get the old handle off
but if it can give you any comfort, most of us has
gone through the same thing. A pain in the.....
Good luck and don't invent any new words close
to any children.

Tjinsa,
I looked up the number you specified and it was
for a 3911 pump, i.e. for standard 289's and
not HiPo's. However, sometimes, if you are lucky,
you can make killers on ebay. Last year, my friend
here in Dallas bought 2 pumps for $20 or $30 incl.
shipping and one was a 4201 for a 1966 HiPo.
He is using it in his 66 GT350 now and it works fine.

Hi Rene,
Before you remove your original, please check
the new one you got. Some of the replacements
I seen has the hole for the pin drilled at the wrong side
and you will have to drill one yourself in the correct place.
Just a tip.

Good morning,
When I lived in Evergreen, Colorado, Walt Hane
told me that he sleeved all 289 HiPo engines
that he used for racing, whether necessary or not.
He said they ran cooler with the sleeves than without.

What's the date code on yours?
/Bo
Hi,
N5, does it exist? M5 is December 1965.
I posted the same request a couple of months ago.
Have an A5 and wanted to trade for a K,L,or M5.
Oct., Nov., or Dec.1965. No takers.

Hi,
Check if they work by accelerating very hard,
i.e. gasfoot to the floor and you should feel a
kick in your back when the secondaries open.

Hi,
Strange that AMK says that the 65-66
fan spacer is 3.5" when their catalog
says 2.2" as the length excluding the pilot
button. I was able to get a 2.36" including
the pilot button in a trade and bought the bolts
from AMK and they fit fine and their length
matches what the 65 Assembly Manual specifies.

Merry Christmas Hank and everybody else.

Hi,
A red car should have the pinch painted black
and what about the radiator. 10000 miles and
a new radiator with the cap on the wrong side.

Rene,
Congratulations on a super car. Good advise,
get your wife interested in the hobby and
she will love her hubby for life.

Oops!
Year should be 1963, of course.
Fat fingers again.

C3AE-N blocks were used in 63 and
had 5-bolt bellhousing pattern.
The date on yours is May 15, 1965.
It could probably have been used in many Fords,
like Fairlanes, Galaxis etc.

Hi again,
Looked through some Swedish car magazines
tonight, including the Classic Mustang
Club of Sweden's magazine called Mustang Forum.
One article there is about a 65 Mustang Rally
Pack, yes they called them that as they were
equipped with Rally Packs, 4-V, A-code engines
and Export Braces. This car has very few miles
and has spent most of it's life in a car museum.
One picture shows the Export Brace and the welded
washer on the shock tower braces. Restorers of
65 Mustangs in Sweden use this car as a reference
as it has never been molested.
By the way, I wrote two articles in the same magazine,
one about the Shelby Texas Nationals and another
about my car, SFM5S275.
