    Hi Murf,

Many years ago, in Dallas, TX, there

was a guy named Greg Cly that had a

US Steel stamp made and used it on his

    Mustang gas tanks. I sold a 70-Boss 302

to him in 1989. Haven't heard anything

about him for years though. His friend

and previos partner Tom Daniels may

know about this stamp as well.

I'll see if I can get in contact with any of

them within the next few days.

    Hi guys,

    Many years ago I bought a NOS 65/66 (C5ZZ-6506010-A)

glove box insert from a Mustang parts

shop here in Texas and today I was

replacing the repo I have had in my Shelby

since 1992. To my big surprise the quality

of the NOS part was extremely poor. The

staple that holds the left side in an

45 degree angle was put in the wrong place

which means that the insert wouldn't fit at all.

I had to remove the staple, bend the insert in

the correct place, make a new hole for the left

lower screw and move the wrongly placed plate

nut to fit the new hole.

The repo made by Pro Products Inc. was in fact much better

    in quality than the NOS.

Finally, the NOS is in the car but I learned a lesson again.

Always check and double check everything. Maybe the part in the original Ford box had been replaced but I don't think so as

    the box looked unopened.

    Thanks Dave,

You are thinking about Craig Conley who owns

Paradise Wheels. Yesterday evening I looked through

magazines from 1965 and the early Shelbys produced

by Ford in the Dec 64 time frame had the short (sharp)

bent shifter. However, most likely I need to put

the rounded (later) type back that it had when

I bought the car in 1988. As said earlier, I was told

that I needed the early type so I got one.

    Hi guys,

Does anybody know when Ford changed

from the short bent to the rounded

bent chromed shifter on 4-speed Mustangs.

Many years ago I was told by Jim Cowles

that I needed a short bent shifter for

my car and I found one. No I am being told

I need a rounded bent shifter by other

people. Which one would be correct for

an early May 65 San Jose' built car?

    Thanks,

    /Bo

    Tony,

Did you check the end play with the engine running?

I just checked the end play on my 65 after replacing

the T10-M1 trans by using a measure between the pedal

and bottom of steering wheel and then depressing the clutch

until the bearing start spinning and take the same measurement.

Had to adjust it at the swivel to the point where there are

almost no treads left on the rod for the outer nut.

My problem is that the clutch stop is starting to be worn (deep)

but I decided to let it be for now.

Free play is about 1" which is fine.

    Hi Rene,

Sorry, but I can't see any picture in

the above post. Also, it may have been

the dealer that changed the color which

would leave your original plate (from the factory)

still there. In that case the original color

would be Rangoon Red. If that's the case

an earlier owner repainted it red because

the door plate stated that color.I think there are

other members on this forum that had the color

changed by the dealer prior to delivery.

    /Bo

    Rene,

You said that you believed the door plate

had been changed at one point, are you sure

about that? Post a copy of it and the experts

here will be able to make sure if it's a repo

or the original. The original owner may have

ordered a Honey Gold car and the dealer

    repainted it prior to delivery.

    Just a thought.

    /Bo

I suggest you check the pinion angle.

If it goes away under accellaration

it could be because the pinion angle

chages, i.e. the pinion is pointing too

much downwards at cruising and move upwards

    during acceleration into the correct

    angle.

    Just a thought.

Hi, Is it a 67? If so, I had the exact same

problem when buying aftermarket rubber insulators.

They are supposed to be for 67-68 but only fit 68

as I believe 67's have different motor mounts.

Bought genuine Ford insulators and they slipped

    right in.

    Thanks William,

Just put a completely rebuilt (all new M gears)

BW T10-M1 transmission with the correct assembly date code

into my 65 Shelby and replaced the clutch fork at the same

time. Traded one with Paul who was kind to help me get

the new trans in as well. We worked a whole day but finally

got the thing mounted. Not a lot of room under the car.

My old T10-M1 had an assembly date code of G85 2 July 8th,1965

which was too late for my car. The new one is dated D295 2,

April 29, 1965 which is 5 days prior to my engine assembly date.

    This is perfect.

    Again, thanks for the tip.

    Hi again,

It should be KONI North America and

you go to the right on their web page

and select accessories and then emblems/decals.

The ones you are looking for are available

in various sizes and cost $0.31 or $0.23

    respectively.

    /Bo

    Hi,

The sticker you show is a newer type

and I think it is available from Koni-US.

I bought the old wing type from them some weeks ago.

As regards the paint there are, I think, three

types of red/orange. The old ones from 65

that I have on my Shelby are dark red.

The ones from the early 70's is a bit lighter red

    and the newer ones orange.

I took an original 65 Koni to a paint shop

and by using the color under the bottom bracket

on a front shock, they were able to mix the paint

    for me with 100% accuracy.

Bring your shock and they can do the same for you.

My 4 date coded 4-65 front and rear shocks came out

    beautiful.
