Got the engine decal from Mustangs Unlimited
yesterday and it has the perforations in both
ends you were talking about. Looks like they were
taken off a spool. C1 554J
Now, if I can find a rebuildable correctly dated 65 water pump.
Have one Jan 65 but it's very pitted and almost
impossible to see the date code. Date should be 65 with either
3 or 4 dots, don't you think for an early May built car.

I just did this on my 65 Shelby. Put the original
date coded back into the car. It's a very straight
forward job if you have removed the passenger side front seat.
As said in an earlier post, be very careful with the
cardboard plenum. It must be mounted on the heater unit and
installed as a unit.

Bad news, but I think you need to remove the
complete heater box.

Excellent Showboard. However, I suggest a couple of changes:
A bit difficult to see the .75% so I suggest 0.75% instead
or just say less than 1%.
Add the word at after rated, i.e. engine rated at 271HP....
High Performance fuel pumps had the same capacity as the
Standard 289. Only difference was the extra spring under the arm.

With todays gas quality, read octane levels, I would
reduce the compression ratio from 10.5:1 to about
9:1 or 9.5:1.

Yes, the one to the right looks like mine
including the notches on the hex edges.
The one pictured in Bob Mannel's book is the
AC type to the left in your picture.
In my shop manual from 1965, they recommend the
PCV valve to be replaced at the recommended interval
and not to attempt to clean it. In my Swedish owners manual
they recommend it to be cleaned at every 10000Km.

Mustangs Unlimited sells two different types of
this decal, 64 1/2 and 65 type respectively.
They are both marked C1 554 J and the only
difference seems to be the color of the decal
and the price. Which one is on this Shelby Dave
showed a picture of. 5S114 was produced in March 65
at Ford. Could it be the waterpump placed is the early
one 64 1/2 and the coil placed is the later 65.

Sorry if I did mislead you with calling it original
to my specific car. I am not 100 % sure if I
took it off my 65 and put into my tool box
or if I got it with me from Sweden when I moved
over 20 years ago. Probably the latter. What's the
difference between the AC unit and the C.S.CO unit?
Also, wasn't this a service item that would either be
cleaned or replaced at a specific service interval
by the gas stations/repair shops performing the service,
i.e. how can anybody be absolutely sure it's original to
their respective car if they weren't the original owner?

Dont' know the significance of the C.S.CO
but it could be the same company that made the
Fan's.

I bought repro HiPo belts many years ago with
the correct markings and still have them on both the
65 and 67.

I found my original C5AE PCV valve in my old tool box.
Must have got it with me when I moved from Sweden more
than 20 years ago. The spring didn't move inside so I
put it in a solvent bath for a couple of days and that
did the trick. Wish I could do the same to myself
and unfreeze stiff joints.

The HiPo belt for 65-67's equipped with an alternator
is longer than the standard belt, 41.25" and width is 3/8".
Part number is C5OZ-8620-A and marking on the belt
C5OE-8620-K.
