My 67 over there sits in a heated garage.

Not hot but maybe around 60 degrees F.

The same with the front brakes. I have never removed

the front brakes on the car in the 31.5 years I owned

it. Only new pads and in 1978 I put in Dow Corning

silicone brake fluid into it with just a thorough

bleeding to get all old fluid out. Rear brake cylinders

have been replaced once when I just added more of the same fluid from the same bottle I bought 30 years ago.

For the last 21 years I have driven the car about 500-1000

miles a year when I am over there on vacation.

    Love that car with a 65 HiPo (Aug 64 built date)engine and a 67

    Close Ratio T&C HEH-BX trans.

My opinion is, if you want it done correctly, do it

yourself. The only thing I haven't done myself on my

HiPo engines is the machine works. When I got the block

and heads back from the shop, I check everything and then

put it all together by checking and double checking myself.

Always had the shop manual and the book How to Rebuild

a Small Block Ford as guide lines. It's easy and very fun if

    you take your time.

I drive my 67 in Sweden about two weeks per year and change oil and filter every second year. Have it on jackstands and a friend charging the battery. Always leave it with a full tank of gas.

Nothing added. When I am back in Sweden in June every year I

disconnect the high voltage wire between the distributor cap and coil and let it go on the starter until oil pressure is up. Then

I connect the wire and start it. Only problem I have had for

more than 20 years is a leaking carb a couple of times.

    Pala,

Do you have a room for a poor guy from Texas?

Always wanted to visit Australia but the IRA account is

diminishing in front of my eyes. My son lived in Surfers Paradise

while studying at the University in Brisbane and my daughter

visited him over there but me and wife couldn't go.

My son had a very old Holden that he drove around in while over

    there.

In August of 1990 (105 degrees), I drove my 65 Shelby

from Dallas, TX to Denver, CO and I can tell you that though I love to drive the car it's very loud, especially with the windows down.

Some journalist in 1965 said it was like the side exhaust pipes

were attached to his ears. If you decide to go this route with

    your hipo, be prepared.

    Mike,

I believe you will burn the coil if you have a constant

+12V on it. It's only supposed to be +12V when you start the car

and then it's reduced to +9V something. Hope I am correct now

as I take it from memory.

You guys made me curious so I went to the garage and checked

my windshield. It has the white text CarLite within an oval

and the usual text is there but on one line it says

SUN-X Vision and on the line below it says SUN-X.

Then date code and some other text.

It's a tinted glass with an upper band which I bought in 1992.

When I restored my Shelby 65 in 1991-92 I decided I wanted SUN-X glass all around. Tinted glass on a white car is so beautiful.

The rear glass already was a SUN-X (all were, correct?)

and the front glass had a upper band so I replaced it with the glass mentioned above. I also found all side windows including vent windows

in SUN-X, used with date codes. Could have been a dealer installed

option in accordance with 65 Shelby dealer paperwork as were radio,

outside mirror etc. Would not pass in a serious car show but I like it the way it is. The original front and side glass were very pitted when some earlier owner sandblasted it.

Still have the original vent windows but the side windows are gone.

Gave them to a friend in Sweden. All were dated 5C including rear glass for my early May 65 San Jose car.

Shelby 65's had a tag reading

Line one: C5ZA - B FoMoCo within an oval

    Line two: 3L89 5CC SP

5CC meaning third week of March 1965

    SP probably means special.

Also seen very late 65 Shelby's with a tag

reading C5ZX - A with the rest being the same

except a later date of course.

Please remember that Shelby's got the Detroit Locker.

Many years ago, I bought a pair of 65 windshield

wiper arms from a company that rebuilt them. Turned

out that my car was too late for the 65 type arms

so I sent the early 65 back and got a pair of late

65, 66 instead. Both were chrome and polished arms.

If I don't recall wrong the change from the 65 to

the 66 type happened after April 1:st 1965.

Got in contact with the owner of the car. The same

guy that bought it back in 1991 (not 1989 as I said).

He verified that the 289 racing engine in his car has

4-bolted main caps. Asked if he has some pictures but

    no reply yet.

Damon, I sent you an email.
