Just curious - what color does your door tag call out for?

Ditto on the occurence of carry over features. My November 64 San Jose car has clip on door and window handles as well as the two speed, center off heater blower motor.

Beautiful car. Not a big deal for sure, but the Interstate battery and the off the shelf oil filter sure do look very out of place under the hood.

I bet it never looked anywhere near that nice the day it left the factory - absolutley beautiful job.

I just finished installing the Custom Autosound 66 replica AM/FM radio in my K. Very straight forward install and it does actually sound very good for what it is. I am using 6 x 9's in the rear and a Ken Harrison 2 speaker setup in the dash and I am overall very pleased - my Ipod actually sounds a bit better than the radio, is easy to plug in and is a nice feature to have. I am very happy with the appearance, very nice chrome and overall detail and looks nice in the dash. Overall, very pleased with the unit - now we will see how long everything works!

Does/has anyone run a 15-50 weight oil (synthetic or Dino)in their car? I have never run more than a 10-40 in mine over the years but the reformulated Mobil 1 does have me interested.

My Pertronix unit is going on 8 years now with zero issues so far. With the dual points, starting and idleing were while not a problem. not the best in the world. After the Pertronix the car started quickly and idles great.

Joe - Welcome to the site from another Connecticut guy, right next door in Meriden. I have seen this car many times over the years (our FORD car club ran the Wallingford Wal-Mart cruise for many years and we are now at Dino's in North Haven) and did not realize it was a K. It is a very nice car with obviously a ton of family history and the new engine looks absolutley awesome. Hope to run into you this year sometime.

I got 4 to 5 years out of my last two dry (add the acid and charge) type repop batteries. Just bought a maintanance free one last September, not sure what the life span for this one will be but I suspect the 4 to 5 year range is probably also a good estimate.

Had a set of Styled Steel wheels on my 65 for around 6 years that made by a company called Pro Products - not sure if they are still in business but the wheels were nice, had very good chrome/paint and they balanced well. There were some wheels oon the market back when I bought mine, that had quality issues and were very hard to balance correctly

This one appears to be the type you have to add acid to. I purchased the same unit this fall but a maintanance free type (acid added, charged and sealed caps)for $230 from Virgina Classic Mustang

Sometimes it is also obscured by paint also - paint over a lighter stamping can make it invisible. I had to remove more than a few layers of engine paint to expose the VIN on my block.

Gary - The one I just bought came from Mustangs Unlimited (only about a 1/2 hour from my house) but most of the Mustang vendors do carry them - Love your car by the way, great color combo and IMHO the tri power setup is a winner - I would leave it for sure.

As for battery, I have used repro batteries for 10 years with no problems. The first two were the "add the acid" type and I just bought a new sealed/maintanance free type unit this fall. I would think that as long as you are not drastically overcharging the battery, I do not think you would have any problem, especially with the newer type sealed maintanance free units.

You may have a long shot of finding one with one of the many Mustang parts vendors old inventory, as there was a white with a red screen printed replacement part on the market but it has been a few years since they were available. I took a standard plated cannister, painted it white and added on the red fuel pump decal available from any parts vendor. Looks just fine!

I typically change the oil, full tank of fuel with stabil, add around 5 or 6 lbs of air to the tires, remove the battery and store it in my house, put a couple of bars of Irish Spring soap under the seats (supposedly good for rodent control)and throw on the car cover. After going through some carb issues the last two years when doing the spring startup, I am contemplating removing, draining and storing the carb indoors this year, or maybe just doing a perodic start up and drive as weather permits, as I will be storing the car in my own garage for the first time in ten years.

Just checked with Dallas Mustang on the Repo radio. They are not expecting to get any until at least the end of November - you do have to wonder what the holdup on the release of this unit is all about. Kind of interesting that from what I was told the station changing buttons do not actually change the stations but are used to control other functions (CD changer,MP3 etc)You will still need to change the stations by rotating the right side dial.

Though its one I know you wish you did not have to make, congratulations on finally making the sale - hope you did end up getting a fair price for it. It is a beautiful car and it sounds like the new owner knows and appreciates what he purchased.

If it were my car, I would take the time and make the effort to do the system right - hopefully the whole system has not been welded together. Something like that would personally, drive me nuts and any good muffler shop shold be able to correct this for a reasonable charge if you are not going to do it yourself. Good Luck

Depends on what kind of muffler is on your car. The chambered type mufflers like Flomasters are flow direction specific and have their inlet and outlet clearly marked. Some turbo type mufflers can be installed either way while other turbo's do have a specific inlet and outlet. I'm surprised the pipes on your car were able to be lined up if they were installed in a reverse mode.
