Anyone have any experience with the David Kee Hurst shifter setup that uses the original style shifter lever? My original shifter is getting to the point that a rebuild would probably be a good idea and I do really like the idea of having a Hurst and still maintaining the original look in the car.

For sure, nobody is picking on you! As mentioned short of installing a fuel cell the tank armor and steel barrier in between the trunk compartment and the rear seat are the only commons items availiable to address this issue. The tank armor is around $200 and the barrier I believe is less than that.

There is the fore mentioned tank armor and there is also the steel barrier that replaces the cardboard barrier and installs in between the rear seat and the trunk compartment - most of the usual Mustang vendors carried them for the past several years. Good points by J Speegel - these are much more serious safety concerns not only with vintage Mustangs but with any vintage car on the road. I accept the fact that these cars are not up to contemporary safety standards and drive my car because for me, the fun and pleasure that I get from driving my K far exceeds the risks involved. I consider myself to be a very good driver overall but I also am much more aware of what is going on all around me when I drive the K then when I am tooling around in my regular daily drivers.

Thanks for the idea - I will take a look at using a hose clamp. The muffler clamp I used is not the best looking alternative and I did have to grind down the drivers side a lot to get it to fit in between the tank and the spring, but it did fit. Looking forward to getting the Kar fired up!

Ended up pulling an all nighter and got the majority of the system on last evening. It fits beautifully and tucks up nice and tight. Cannot wait for the correct hangers for the rear mufflers to become availiable. I did used universal hanges that swivel where the hanger attaches to the muffler that work OK, but obviously are not factory correct and look like well, a universal hanger. Also I could not find any 2 3/4" band clamps locally to used on the resonators and used standard 2 3/4" muffler clamps temporarily - anyone have a source for these band clamps? Plan to finish up and fire it up tonight - will let you know how it sounds.

Received my base model Arvinode system on Monday. Amazed at the relatively small carton that it came in - nicely packaged and bubble wrapped to protect the parts. All the components are clearly hand labeled as to left/right inlet/outlet etc. and the quality looks to be there. I am planning on doing some "on the back" time and bolting the system on this week. Will let you know how it goes!

Not on the K but I have used Jet Hot ceramic coated headers on other cars. Highly recomended. Looks great, the coating does help to keep the temperatures down and had one set on a summer driver that still looked great 4 years later. much much better than any paint or other plating that I have ever used.

Have had my original type Pertronix for 8 years so far with no problems - I do carry a spare unit with me just in case. I also use their Flame Thrower coil, which fits fine in the original coil clamp.

Marv and Hank's hard work and dedication to running this site is very much appeciated by this member. The help I have received while working on my car and the knowledge I have gained about these cars would not have happened through any other source out there and it's been great meeting other K owners both in person and through correspondance on the site - great job guys and thanks for all of the hard work!

Boy, this should be a hot thread. My short list: Four repo air cleaners before I got one with nice chrome - 3 from MU and the good one from KAR mustang, three drivers o/s rear view mirrors to get one with respectable looking plating, inside rear view mirror bracket whose chrome was heavily pitted within 3 months, rear package tray for my coupe, bought two and both ill fitting and cheesy looking, ended up making my own and I won't even go into the repo front fenders that I tried to get to fit on my friends 66 T code coupe......
