    <b>Why cannot somebody find a way to rebuild these fuel pumps</b><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would think that someone in this hobby/business could figure it out and make alot of $$$...and provide a great service to alot of us K owners...kind of like what Pony Carbs did with the 4100 Autolite!

...I have been looking for a '67 K code fastback with deluxe interior and a 4-speed ever since I got into cars. I haven't even found one, much less found one I can afford. I am about to give up and get a S code with deluxe interior. Those aren't easy to find either. My heart is with the K code's, though...

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

I know of a 67K Fastback with Deluxe interior (and the four warning lights in center console) though it is a GTA. Midnightmist Blue/Blue interior. Not currently for sale but maybe at some point.

And I have a 67S-code Fastback with Deluxe interior and it is also a GTA...and Midnightmist Blue/Blue interior. It's a keeper.

Interesting point that the 67Ks cost ~$260 MORE than a 67S-code...and the K's were indeed better, though unable to order with AC or PS. I recall years ago drag racing a friend driving a stock 390 fastback with my 67K Shelby C4 (w/out Paxton)...and whip his _ _ _ ...more than once!

    Long live the K's!!! <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

    <b>Without question...it's the Fastback model!</b>

The Mustang Coupe is a fabulous looking style BUT the Fastback trumps them all by taking that same great style to a higher level of sportiness and sexiness.

As for the Converts...I always thought it ironic that high performance versions were made and sold. It seems so contrarian to performance with its extra weight and less stability/rigidty and safety...and the converts do not add to the fabulous looking Coupe style, instead they distract from it. You want a 'vert? Get a 6-banger or a basic C-code.<img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

The letter series on your black plate is correct for your cars selling date. When your car was last registered in 1982 was it with the black plates or a newer replacement? You have a far better chance if the black plates were the last ones registered to the car. Another possibility is to check with DMV to see if your plate number has been reissued for some reason. Here is the link to that page.

    https://vrir.dmv.ca.gov/ipp/PerLicensePlateServlet

If the number is still available, which most likely it will be, you can get personalized plates with your number and use the black plates instead of the newly issued plates. A friend of mine was able to resurrect his black plates on his 64 Falcon without getting personalized plates.

Fred...Thanks for your input...and Yes, the last year the car was registered/driven in CA was 1982 with the original "UYA XXX" Black/Gold plate(s)...I have only the rear plate now....Sooo, I plan to order a pair of new Black/Gold repos from the above vendor and then deal with CA DMV to re-activate my original plate number. I have also heard of others doing this...though I'm not sure exactly how. I'll just start out buy first calling DMV...as I have 2 to 3 months before the car will be ready for the road.

...Keep in mind that old 'black plates' are not reissued by the state nor are they recognized without a bunch of paperwork and bureaucratic run-around (including 'no' as a final answer). There are ways to do it however.

    Jim, Jeff, Dave, et al...

Has anyone gone through the DMV process in CA to get their 40 year-old Black/Gold plates renewed after years of non-operation? My 67K has one originally issued Black/Gold plate that I wish to permanently retain and use. The car was first sold in June 1967 and issued the Black/Gold "UYA XXX" plates. It was last registered in 1982. What exactly do I have to do to make this happen<img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

    <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>

OK, plan B. Can you isolate/identify each part that needs to be reproduced, to factory specs? then maybe we can get it done. My K was ripped off sometime in its history, and buying another hipo just to rip its tranny out is not the most desireable optin for me. Does anyone out there have a real hipo automatic they can sell me, or use to reproduce the parts? I am willing to make the parts available to others if we can make them.<img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I...and likely many others...would be very interested in a COMPLETE Hipo C4 Kit...not only for my K-auto but for my non-K C4 Mustangs!

    I know, I know...I'm asking for a miracle..but what the hey!...I have got to at least try!...Right<img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'm searching for a pair of thermactor C7ZE Hipo heads for a 7E4 assembled 67K motor. These heads are all that I required to complete the 100% accurate drive-train for my 7E15 built Fastback GT. The car is currently undergoing total nut 'n bolt rotiserrie restoration.

I do have a great pair of NON-thermactor 7E8 C7ZE heads for possible trade FOR THE ABOVE ONLY. (These heads are not for sale...so please, do not ask).

I will likely have this car for the rest of my life, along with all my other Mustangs...Sooo, please help me if you can. I will keep active this "Help Wanted" request until I can find them. If any eKschange member or guest can connect me with anyone who might own these, I would be forever greatful and monetarily gracious.

In the interim, I will consider a pair of thermactor C8, C9 or D0 Ford Service Replacement Hipo heads. These should be unmolested and standard valve size. Any leads sincerely appreciated.

Like many of you...I am not a dealer and have never sold any Mustang I have ever owned. I am simply a fanatic...and Luv my cars!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

BobM...It seems odd to me that ONLY 14 of all the 67K Mustangs that were produced after April 15, 1967 were equipped with "Exhaust Emission Control", i.e. the thermactor/air-pump system.

If I am not mistaken, ALL California DSO destined 67Ks after 4/15/67 were required to have this system....And that they all likely were produced at the San Jose/Milpitas plant exclusively.

Does it not seem unusual that only 14 were made/sold for the California market after this date???...I would think this number to be larger.

Nevertheless, my 7R02K is definitely one of these thermactor K's. It has the 2-groove crank pulley, the 3-groove water pump pulley and the 2-groove, LARGE diameter Hipo alternator pulley. In addition it has the specially calibrated 1.12 4100 Autolite with BRASS (vs Aluminum) tag. Tag reads:

    C7ZF B

    A 7DC

The base is stamped: 7Z B

And Tom...My Marti report list as options the "Closed Crankcase Emission System" and "Exhaust Emission Control".

Sooo...if Marti does not list these, then hence, a non-thermactor Hipo. I suppose a post-4/15/67 7R02K could have come with plugged C7ZE thermactor heads or the non-thermactor versions.

When I have time to figure how to post/share pics I will do so...Bob

    <font color=blue></font id=blue><font face='Verdana'></font id='Verdana'>

    Hey Tom..Thanks for the numbers...I've long wondered what they were, now I know! <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would still like to find out how many 67K Mustangs came from Ford with the "Exhaust Emission Control System" (i.e. C7ZE Hipo Heads w/the thermactor ports) because mine was definitely one of them.

Then there were the 67K Shelbys destined for California DSOs. I wonder if anyone knows how many of these were made<img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would like to know the true production breakdown for the 67K (non-Shelby) Mustang. Being that Marti has all the production information from Ford for the 67 Mustang, this should be easy...Right?

So...if anyone has any figures to share, please do so. This is what I know so far, although I would like to know more...<img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

    <b>Total 67K production: 489

    Total Fastbacks: 319 (205 GTs, 114 GTAs)

    Total Coupes: ??? (? GTs, ? GTAs)

    Total Convertibles: ??? (? GTs, ? GTAs)</b>

Also, would anyone have info as to how many of the 67K Mustangs (non-Shelby) came from Ford with the Thermactor/Air Pump setup?

Sooo...You think a healthy and tuned stock K-code Mustang is fast?...Well...Yes it is...BUT with a Paxton it is SUPER FAST...like having two Hipos in the same car! Or like have a jet engine with one hell of an afterburner to propel you forward on demand, yet docile!

I drove my 67 GT350 for 15 years before adding a Paxton in 1991. I have said many times since that I would not own/drive a 289 Hipo without a Paxton. Now that I have a rarer 67K Mustang w/its original drive train, I am relucant to add a non-stock Paxton, for reasons of originality/rarity and preservation of the original drive train.

I feel that if you want to add a Paxton to a K, and really DRIVE it, then do so with a quasi-289Hipo built from a date correct C5AE block, Mex caps, Boss302 rods, stock 289 crank and C3OE Hipo heads...all built to 289HP specs with upgraded pistons/valves/valve seats/rocker arms/timing chain. Use C8 balancer. The original performance will be very similar, thou more reliable...and if it blows, you won't cry over your lost original K engine. Once the Paxton is put on it will be hard to drive a K-code again without.

Anyway, I have been thru all the modifications that are required and desirable for this addition. Bottom line...the expense, trial and tribulations were all worth the effort. Try it, you won't like it you'll Love it!

I use crocus paper to clean up the surface of the crankshaft end, WD40 and compressed air to clean out the crank bolt threads. Then Anti-sieze lubricant on the balancer for future problem-free removal, a NEW crank bolt with Loctite 271 threadlocker. Air impact to draw down then final torquing to ~95#.

Makes me chuckle to hear your story (LOL)<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>...It forced recall of a similar incident with me a couple years ago...

I was visiting the ol' childhood homestead, 1800mi away in the midwest, when I went into the attic and found a long fogotten part to my 67 A-code fastback. It was the fold down section to my back seat. It was likely in the same spot that I placed it over 30 years prior!...It was very dusty and in pristine condition. I recall removing and replacing it with a customized speaker panel, so that I could spare cutting into my interior panels or the trap door and freeing up about 30lbs of excessive weight. That was in 1972! Boy was I happy to spot it. It is now reunited with the same A-code fastback that I have owned since high school...and we're both happy!

Just goes to show that there is still hidden and long forgotten treasures out there...treasure to someone like you or me<img src=images/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>...junk to all others! <img src=images/icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

    Thanks for the sharing.
