I saw this earlier thread here for 7F02K187355 on Mecum Kissimmee January 12, 2023 and curiosity led me to poke around the Mecum site and came across a listing that looks interesting to me.

    LOT W275 // DALLAS 2023 - 1966 Ford Mustang GT K-Code Convertible

The car is listed as 1 of 88 Konvertibles produced , 1 of 53 thought to be remaining and 1 of 1 Candy Apple Red K-code Mustang with a bench seat. Per the High Performance Mustang Registry by Tony Gregory.

    These numbers match my book.

My thought is that the registry consists of 1490 Kars however PG 3 of this same book indicates Approx. 13,000 Kars were made. This really makes the registry a representative sample of ~11% of total production.

Am I missing something here? or could this description be an incorrect representation of the production numbers for this car?

The wording indicates Per the registry so technically it is not incorrect however when the description headline highlights 1 of 88 produced. It seems a little incorrect.

I was in the process of reaching out to the auction but the car sold while I was drafting an email.

    Thanks Fred,

I'm in the process of putting the Model A back together. She need to move so I can start the Mustang project. I had it torn appart to freshen it up.

Should be out soon, once it is I'll post some photos and more info about it in a new thread.

There is a glimpse of another cool Model A in the background of one of my Mustang pics. Its not mine, but its another part of my family. If there is intrest here i can post some photos of it. Not sure how you all view posting cars of non members. FYI Its my fathers truck.

    Let me know.

    Hello all,

    Introducing myself and my project.

I'm new to Mustangs but have been around old cars for a long time. My other car is a Model A Tudor Sedan. 302/AOD/Mustang II front end. Its a junkyard hot rod 😁. I have had it so long it is cool again as a rat rod 🤣.

The Kar was purchased by my uncle in 1966 new, driven until 74, sat in a field for a bit then a barn until 2023. It is a family heirloom. Hopefully he will be able to drive in it agan soon.

He claims the only things changed from factory are the wheels, tires, shift knob and starter.

I have NOS, fenders, floor, exhaust, valances that he purchased in the late 70's and the original shiny jewlry pieces that have been removed.

It will start coming apart soon, plans are for a factory correct restoration.

Cool story about the starter, since I recently read a thread here about K starters here.

This would have taken place pre 1974 as he was still driving the car regularly.

He bought a new starter and was given the wrong one, went back to the supplier and they looked into the problem. Supplier said it was the correct one. My uncle asked him if the 289 hipo is same part number. Checked part catalog and they ofcourse are not. According to my uncle the K starter is the same as the 6 cylinder mustang, and that is what is on my car today.

Always interested in seeing information form others, feel free to let me know your observations.

    Thanks

    Jerry

I am sure this is not an new question, I did do a thread search but didn't find anything that was current.

The re-body thread was an interesting read.

At what point or level of non Ford replacement parts does the community view an authentic K code kar, no longer authentic. Or is this even a thing?

I have an authentic 66 2+2 K code that needs almost everything from the door handles down. It has good rockers, doors, top and is complete. Rust damage is extensive. Needs shock towers, frame pieces, firewall, likely a cowl, cross member, complete floor, torque boxes etc.

Rust damage is bad but most could be repaired with time and money, replacement parts would likely be much faster and less expensive.

I'm not sure if I should go the 100% authentic route or just make a solid driver. FYI to me its about the car, not the resal value and I am not going for concours level, but admitadly I am a bit of a hot rod snob.

If my Model A was made from fiberglass or was a repo steel body I'm not sure I could call it a Ford Model A. Many people ofcourse do.

I would appreciate seeing your opinions.

    Thanks in advance!
