That's ok, I will think about it some....and keep the original parts. I just sold some old mexican caps and will be selling a few more non hipo items in hopes of at least getting the cowl work done. I won't be selling the kar, regardless.

Thanks for the input so far...c-4 is NOT the factory piece.

    Keep ideas coming...Thanks again

Also, I paid 705.26 for the parts, including new battery tray and labor, including frame pull. I thought it was a fair price.

I don't think there will be a shortage here...I'm looking for opinions to help me make a decision. I have my own idea, and it seems very logical to me, but it never hurts to get other ideas. Here is the short story:

I have the 66 coupe/k/auto that my Dad bought new. If you search, you should find some pics. It needs a lot of work and I have next to no money. I have two kids that are in or going to college soon, so I have no dreams of completing/driving the car in the next 6-10 years.

I have split up the major work into three areas:

    1. Collision damage and rusted out battery tray area.

    2. Rusted cowl area.

    3. Rusted floor pans.

    1. I just had repaired. Core support and inner apron below battery were PROPERLY (read expensive) repaired as factory. The driver side was 3/4 inch high and 1/4 inch pushed to the rear. This pulled easy and is not much damage (according to the body man). This was from the collision damage.

2 and 3 are the areas in question.

The opinion needed is for this: Let the car sit and continue in decline. The rust is getting bad in the floors. OR sell a few parts that are original to the car to help finance some repairs in order to slow/stop further structural damage? Even though this will not pay for #2 and #3, it will help get #2 done, which should slow down #3 damage.

    Parts are:

    1. Fan

    2. Dizzy

    3. Intake manifold

    4. Exhaust manifolds

Given: I realize that once these parts are gone, I will never get them back again. Also, the original engine (block/crank/rods/heads) were damaged and replaced back in 1969, so they are long gone also. Since I was only 6 years of age at the time, I was not consulted regarding thier disposition.:D

For the next 6 months to year the car will continue to be stored outside. I should have a garage spot available soon to keep it out of the elements. It is drivable now, as far as moving from here to there. I drove it (mostly stock 289 rebuild) the 2 miles from the storage lot to the body shop.

I drove, yes drove, the 66 over to the body shop a couple of days ago. I can't afford to do the whole car, but I'm tired of it looking the way it does, so I picked up some cans and donated enough plasma to get a little work done. The preceding line was my feeble attempt at humor.

While I was there I saw a convertable they were working on. This car was recently purchased off ebay for 18,500, with no inspection. The car was originaly a six cylinder and was converted (poor job) over to a v-8. It was not represented as a k-car. The paint is top notch, shiny and deep. However, the car began to sag so bad the new owner brought her in for a little attention. After some disasembly, it was found to have had a lot of coupe parts welded in the floor area. Of course coupe parts didn't fit just right, so the body genious just pulled, cut and pacthed it together. Anyway, please be careful, this happens a lot. I tell you what, this car was NICE looking from 5 feet away, one might not have noticed...

I'll be in Jupiter next Saturday if you want another opinion. I have a 66 coupe here in Vero Beach. I just took it to the body shop's "holding lot" yesterday. He said he could get started on it in a month or so. Wow, I am so excited to start getting some work done on it. You are welcome to look at it for comparison if you need to. My Dad bought this one brand new at Bev Smith Ford there in West Palm Beach, so I still have all of the original paperwork and the old yearly inspections Florida used to have. I remember they had a time getting the floor jack under it after I starting modifying it. Can you say LOW?

I was cleaning up some old boxes last week and found a couple of old parts. The valve covers should be the originals for my car (I don't remember having any other hipo covers around in years. The spark plugs are what I used to run in the old days when I ran hot 289's (350-400hp@7000rpm). The covers are covered with rust pits, although the pics make them look really bad. I rubbed them with a rag and some spit and they shine right up. I guess I'll clean them a little and oil them up for some day when I want to do them up right.

I can tell you that I would stay around 2800, no more than that. Also, yes to the cooler question. A cooler and changing the fluid every 20,000 miles will go a long way towards keeping it in one piece.

Also, the most important thing. Wanna sell the old tranny?

Sounds like you are on the right track. I wish my car was in your shape. Not too many left like that. By the way, what are your plans for the incorrect parts. I'm always building one car or another and might be able to use them. I'm in Vero Beach, are you nearby? I'd like to see a car like yours.
