All the original ford sheet metal have date codes stamped into them.If HPM.com can compile what the appox. date is for that particular vin. From that particular plant is a great start. My good friend ,and me just finished restoring my 1965 hi po fastback. It is a original rust free , accident free car from Arizona. I have owned this car for 5 years, and it is in the fourth addition.Anyway when a car is a good original car, all of these date codes jump right out at you. Exact locations of these stamping, is another good diagram to compile. It is very important to keep track of the history of these cars, like the Shelby Club dose. All 65 -66 Shelby's had to come from the San Jose plant. All 65-66 fastbacks buit in Dearborn, or Metuchin, are not the same. If you are going to pay big bucks for a K code, or Shelby do your homework, or pay someone to help you. This is what makes these cars special. Now i here someone is able to stamp vin numbers stars and all. Lets try to show where these date codes are , and record dates on known orig. cars and we can protect these special cars.

fourth edition page 90. Hipo variation #2 usually found on late 65'cars though 66' and later. Yes 67 K code car's did have this variation plate, as well as later mustang's which came from the factory with 9" rear ends. Early 64 and a half though most of 65 used the variation #1 style. See lower page 89. These plates did not come in A code cars.

Dynacorn makes the 67-68 fastback body, has both torque boxes 68 style, and now have the 69 -70 body for sale. Better grade steel, and slightly thicker. They also have the 67-68 camaro's .And the 69 camaro, coupe or conv. All of these bodies, have doors hinged, and trunk lids, appox. 15,000. They also produce the 1949- thur 55 1st series half ton chev. pickup truck. Is the 65-66 fastback next?

Please read page 87 of the 289 high performance mustang by Tony Gregory. He states in 1965-66 the k model was the only model with the larger 9" assembly. There were two styles of bumper plates welded to the floor pan above the rear axle's nose. this bumper plate was to give the unit something to bump against when hitting potholes and such, other than thin sheet metal. The 9" assembly and the standard 8" assembly each used a different kind of plate. They are shaped distinctively different. On the standard 8'plate, the triangular rubber bumper is mounted on the plate. On the 9" assembly, the rubber bumper is mounted on a shield that is bolted to the axle assembly.the bracket above has no bumper or provision to mount one, via a slot. All k model"s came with the 9" assembly, all k mustang's should have the 9' style plate. In 1967, the 390 was offered with a 9"rear assembly, and obviously came with the 9" style bumper plate.Page 89 top shows the standard bumper plate used on cars with the 8" third member. Bottom of the page shows HiPo variation #1 usually found on early cars through 1965.Page 90 shows HiPo variation #2 usually found on late 65 cars through 1966 and later. In 64 and a half thur 1966 only k code mustang's had this style of plate

I also have had no luck trying to register my car. Right now the car is registered in my friend"s name, At the time i had no computer nor did i know how to use no. Now i would like to update the info, but i have had no luck. Dose HiPo exchange have a telephone number?

I have a 1965 hi-po fastback, with orig. dual point distributor, and i have installed pertonix 2 , made for dual points.I have it wired to the coil which is the way the instuctions say to do it.The coil is a yellow top repo from Dennis Carpenter, which is also new. Is it better to run it wired back to the ignition switch where i am garanteed to get twelve volts, or to the coil where only God knows what i am getting? Can i put a gauge on the coil to measure the output? I think a hotter coil would benefit me alot. Yes i did use the feeler gauge and did set the pertronix right.Someone told me that wired to ignition switch, you must be sure not to leave key on acc. or it will fry the pertronix? why can't someone make a hot yellow top coil?
