Yes, sounds neat, may be he'd let you take a few pictures to share?? may be he'd like to come and join us here?

<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>maybe i will see the car again. over the years i have come across some neet stuff and some people traded phone numbers and some didnt. i came across a 69 torino 428 cobra a few months back and tried to talk to the guy and he wouldnt give me the time of day and drove off. i could hook the guy with the mustang up with a great engine shop and paint shop.

came across a 65 light blue GT coupe in the parking lot yesterday. as i was looking at the car while walking i saw hipo289 on the front fenders and stainless rocker moulding. i hung around my truck until a guy walked up to it and then i walked over and asked about it. said his dad bought it new in 65 and recently gave it to him. i am guessing the guy is in his mid 50's like me. we talked for a while and the guy said he had wanted this car for years. i got to look under the hood and saw the usual 289 hipo stuff>choke cable, wide balancer, chrome valve covers, stremlined exhaust mainfolds,no vacuum advance, etc. the guy said it has over 100,000 and never ben apart and it looked it was really dirty and old looking and had some oil seeps. had the large front sway bar, disc, pipes out the rear panel no backup lights,140 speedo with gauges,4 speed, standard black interior, door data plate was old looking with some blue paint from a repaint that looked really old. i did see the K in the vin under the hood and on the door plate. the side stripes wernt put back after the repaint but it had the GT badges and M U S T A N G letters where they would normally be on the GT stripe. as i was talking to the guy i asked if his dad had put the stainless trim on the rockers and he said no it came that way ! i asked again and got the same reply. he said the only thing his dad did was have the under dash air put in(southern california) and i asked if i could here it and it was pretty quiet. he said the car came with glass packs form the factory and when he was a little kid he and his friends liked it when his dad would take off. he said his dad hated the glass packs cause they

were too loud and he eventually had quiet mufflers put on and has had several exhaust over the years. it had the pipes out the rear valance holes but no trumpets. i asked about the trumpets and he remembered them and said he thinks they had louvers. what gets me is this is a GT probably and early one cause it sounds like it had the arvin exhaust but it has the stainless rocker trim. thats trippy. i wasnt going to try to look under the car and the guy didnt want to share phone numbers he did say he would be driving it now that its his. i waited for him to drive off and from the sound of things i would say a 3.89 gear. the engine needs a ring job good bit of blue smoke. anybody else seen an early GT with stailess rocker trim ? btw i asked if he would interested in selling the car and with a loud firm voice he said HELL NO ! btw since 1973 ihave had (2)66 C notchbacks , (2) 65 A fastback GT's (3)66 A fastback GT's (1)69 fastback that a 351C was put in , and my current and last car and keepr is a 65 K GT fastback i bought in 1974 minus the blode up engine and no 4 speed.

I believe the car we are currently talking about is a GT non K car; since this particular topic is about GT verifacation.

<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>thats right ,its a A code GT not a K code cause this topic is about GT items that spose to be on a real A or K code GT.

    <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>

    power steering???

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>yeah i type p/s or ps for power steerin and p valve for brake proportioning valve cause i kent spel wort a daum !

    <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>

Maybe the car has some floor work/rust replacement?

<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>i just talked to the guy cause he wants me to do some major mechanic work on the car. hes never done anyhing to the body except a paint job b 4 i met him about 20 years ago and the carpet i helped him with the other day. i'v never seen him drive it and right now it aint got a battery. got 68000 original miles. i'll get to see the snubber but he says its as his dad bought it new. told me he wants to repaint it again. told me it had side stripes but he didnt like them and didnt have them put back on. still has the mustnag fender letters and gt badges. he had the exhaust replaced with plain pipes through the rear valence holes some years sgo but it looks rotten. the muffler shop used parts of the factory dual hangers. i tooks like the rear main seal on the engine is leaking and he said the p/s squeeled and leaked. the p valve has brake fliud seeping. i want him to switch to a dual masa cyl. real clean straight car hes gona give to his son when he turns 18 in august.

it also has the metal GT badges on the fenders like all my 65's did. all my 66 gt cars had plastic badges. when i sold my other 65 gt cars years ago i kept the metal badges and i still got them and some more metal ones out fo junk yards back in the 70's and early 80's or thereabouts. if i had known way back then we would be discussing this on a thing called the internet i would have kept all kinds of documentation.

dont know what kinda snubber plate ,didnt look and wasnt going to crawl under the car but its a jinuwine gt. its not a "K" but an "A" with the 225 horse 4V enjin !

just come back from helping a freind recarpet his 65 fastback GT. its an A code his dad bought new and gave it to him years ago. pulled the rear seat out and it aint got the reinforcement plates where the muffler hangers are. i asked if i colud look the car over and look underneath. i has the crush tubes in the rear frame rail. it has the same foglight wiring harness as my 65 gt's one hole in the core support on the drivers side thats big and has the headlight harness size plastic bushing. the foglight wire is in the light harness and the parkin and tail lights come on with the fog. i asked if i could pull his 5 gauge panel and he said ok if i changed some bulbs and it has the factory rolled simi-circle on the bottom of the dash for the round speedo clearence. everything is as a 65 gt shoild be except the reinforcement plates. he's in his fiftys and hasent a clue about mechanics and doesnt care that the car is a GT and is gonna give it to his son one day. so the lack of those plates is a factory boo boo. the door tag is there and the build month is "S". the old looking door plate vin matches the fenderwell vin. it has standard interior. i read somewere else that a GT somebody has doesnt have the reinforcement plates. so i guess not every factory A code is gonna have them or k code.btw my frfiend is 50 something and i am 52 years of age physically but mentally i dont know !

beginning in 1973 i have owned 3-65 fastback gt with stanidard interior , 3-66 fastback gt all 3 with pony interior , all those cars were 4 speed. i owned 2-66 notchback non-gt "C" codes one came with 3 speed stick the other with a 4 speed. in 1974 i bought a complete 65 fastback gt "K" body. The guy blode the hipo 289 engine up real bad the block was busted and he didnt want to let the 4 speed go. ALL my gt cars had the holes in the back frame rails for the tailpipe hangers BUT i never paid no attention to crush tubes back there until reading about it here. i knew the frame for the steering box and idler arm had tubes for the bolts. i stuck my finger in the hole the other day this "K" car and my other 65 fastback gt "A" code have tubes in the rear frame rails. i dont see how anyone could put them in the frame unless he took the frame off or took the trunk floors out cause how you gonna gitta drill in there ? there aint no room. all my cars were bought in jackson missippi during the 70's. there were so many 65-66 fastback mustangs back then in jackson and mccomb missippi. i knew probably 15 or 20 people that had 65-66 hipo 289 cars. i could have bought another 65 fastback body for $300 but i didnt cause i considered that way too high since i only paid $125 for mine in 74. the MOST i paid for any a my mustangs was what i consisderd a whopping $900 for a yellow 65 gt with black stripes and black interior , air , power steering spinner hucaps and it was mint and the lady had bought it new. i found a 69 428 4 speed fastback with the lowbuck interior for $75.00 sittin in a front yard out on a rural back road east of mccomb in the late 70's. b 4 i could git back out there to git it a so called friend that was with me told a friend of his who told a guy i knew that had a 69 mach 1 and he went that night and bought it !!!!! i dont know about 65-66 gt production numbers but there were lots of those cars and with the fog lamps, side stripes, side lettering, trumpet louvered exhaust i could spot them a mile away especially the silvergrey 65 w/black stripes and the 66 silvergrey w/black stripes and this inclides notchbacks and convertables. my dad also owned a raven black 65 fastback gt and a 69 boss 302 he bought aroung the mid 70's. the "K" fastback gt body i have now was stored in missippi at my dads and then my aunts until i went and brought it back to califirnia a couple a months ago. i repainted the inside floorboards and trunk and engine compartment during the 70's. the interior was used by my dad and brother and someone took my rear valence and swapped the perfect hood for a bondo hood. i cant complain cause my dad never charged my storage to keep it ender a sheed for the last 35 or so years. the "K" gt "HAD" standard black interior poppy red outside w/black stripes. and as i remember all my 65 cars had pot metal gt badges and the 66 were plastic. as for the poppy red , a guy i knew had a non gt 65 fastback that was poppy red and then there is my car and i knew another guy that had a wrecked in the front 65 fastback that was poopy red. i'm gonna paint my 65 k back poppy red with white stripes over the top and am gonna leave the side stripes off. interior will be black again. 5F09K677490

i have a trunk floor date stamping of 1 20 3D and my door vin tag has date 27Q which is march 27th build date. so the trunk floor was made about 2 months before my car was put together if i understand this correctly. also my car is a factory 65 GT K that i bought from the original owner in 1974 minus the engine and trans. he blew up the engine beyond repair and kept the toploader. i had 2 other 65 GT A code cars and one thing about this car was 1 hole on the driver side in the core support for the fog light wire and the passenger side fog light wire went through the vent slots in the core support. what does the D on the 1 20 3D date stamping mean ?
