Sending your kar out of state is a more expensive, complex proposition, but locating a shop that has a good reputation and is trustworthy is very important. The additional expense might be justified in the long term.

The name of the shop that I am using is BCD Preservations in Harrington, Delaware. Their e-mail is bcdpreservations@yahoo.com. Phone number (302)-398-4014. Ask for Ken.

They are currently working on four convertible Mustangs: two 65-66s and two 67s, including what I call the Phoenix, which was just a 65 A-code conv that was broken in half and rusted. Its sheet metal replacement story is similiar to what you would experience.

With them, you definitely get what you pay for! Expect about $20K in sheet metal work alone if your kar is as bad as you have said.

    Sold for $12.5k?

This is a very solid car that will retain its value when finished. It will need Floor Pans it has many good options 4 speed, 9" rear end which is rare, for 1965, 289 High Prerformance. I've owned this car for about 7 yrs and I'll never have time to finish it. This car is basically the same engine and trans and rear end as the 65 Shelby. Its the only engine option for an orginal Shelby in 65 -66. This car could be cloned into a Shelby and only you and the Shelby registry would know the difference. All the proof is in the engine code, If is not a K code it could have never been a Shelby.

Solid Torque boxes and frame rails, even original battery box. This car will need floor pans, probably trunk drop offs, a shelby hood, grill, and R code front balance to finish it out as a G.T. 350.

I have 2 excellent doors, fenders are very workable no rust, even the Quarter are only going to need minimal patching. I would never cut these quarter off, thaey are very solid.

Top is excellent no rust anywhere, except for surface where somebody sanded off the paint. Front radiator support included and valance. Car was wrecked in front end at one time. Rear end appears to have never been wrecked. All frame rails are solid, everywhere.

What is the build date of your kar? I wouldn't be so sure that your kar should have come with an HEH-BX transmission, even though it is a late 65 model year kar.

After I bought my kar, I was curious whether I indeed had the correct transmission in the kar. My kar is a Metuchen, June 65 built kar. When I purchased it, an HEH-T was in it. According to the David Kees transmission website, my kar should have come with an HEH-BX transmission.

Subsequent to the original posting of this thread, I discovered that the HEH-T transmission that came with my kar had the correct VIN stamped on the tail case flange.

If you examine the thread below, a number of other K owners of kars built within a similiar date range also have an HEH-T transmission in their kars.

I have a question concerning FB interior quarter trim panels.

The quarter trim panels that I received with my kar when I bought it are

scratched, gouged, and have a number of holes in them. They need to be

    replaced.

The additional sets that I have found are a little different from mine, in

that they have a different part number.

My set has an additional squared mounting tab at the center of the top edge of each qtr

trim panel. It also has a larger forward-lower mounting tab with a key

notch cut into the mounting tab.

The part number on my trims are: Driver side C5ZB-C331071-EW

    Passenger side C5ZB-C331070-EW.

The other sets I have seen recently have only two mounting tabs (differently

shaped) on the top of the trim (without the middle tab) and also have a

smaller forward-lower mounting tab that does not include a key notch.

The part number on those trims are: Driver side C5ZB-C331071-KW

    Passenger side C5ZB-C331070-KW.

What is a probable explanation for these differences? Is it that I have the 66 variety, because my kar was a Metuchen, June 1965 manufacture? The other sets are from earlier 65 cars.

    Thanks.

During the early days of my ownership of my kar I entertained myself by corroborating all of the information contained within the documentation that I have for my kar with the various casting dates, door tag, and the buck tag data that I have.

I came to the conclusion that the Scheduled Build date (early June 65) that is on the door tag might be accurate, but it also could have been wishful thinking on the part of the particular Ford plant scheduling department. In my case the Scheduled Build date was 16 days earlier than what I believe to be the date the kar actually went down the line. This later build date is confirmed by the date on the Buck tag, (Metuchen kar).

This later, Buck tag date is supported by the date on the original dealer invoice (7 days later). The trip between the Metuchen factory and the selling dealership (Baltimore) was less than one day's drive (direct).

This scenario is an example of a Metuchen kar, not Dearborn or San Jose.
