Please let me know how you plan to check the DMV records. I tried that to find PO's and was told - no dice, all secret now.

I went and took off the plate, and saved the drive screws. Not a pretty sight underneath.
Thanks for the advice all.

I have my intake off at present. I read that this plate should be taken off, but how do you do it without shearing the rivets ?
What is the point of taking it off ?, where does it vent or go to ?
Thanks

Thanks for the info it is very helpful.

Thanks for the info. I see in Bobs article that he says that the crank is statically in balance and has no heavy side. I can now understand how it all works.
I want to get the engine balance checked and was not happy to take the stuff to a machine shop without knowing the theory behind it.
Cheers

Have read all the searches I can find and would appreciate some clarification.
The Ford small block is externaly balanced - yes.
The HiPo is balanced differently to other 289's. I gather early engines had a 28oz imbalance, later engines 50oz and HiPo 30.4oz.
Ok so how does this work ?
Is the crank is neutraly balanced ???
Does the damper have an imbalance of 24.5oz ?
Does the hatchet have an imbalance of 5.9oz ? making the two total 30.4oz.
How is the flywheel balanced does that have a 30.4 oz imbalance ?
If all of the above is correct does fitting the pistons and rods bring the whole lot back into balance ?
Or am I wrong ? If so could someone explain.
Thanks

Good idea Ta

Thanks Ray
I do have a correct old one. I dont know the costs involved in sending stuff back to the US for rebuild. I sent my Rally Pac tach back and that was OK. But a clutch disc is a lot heavier.
Besides Customs get all excited and want to charge you for getting your own stuff back.
I am receiving help from this forum on the matter.
Cheers

PS had to put my pic up as its you

Help
I am trying to get a hold of the correct stock clutch. Now bear in mind I am across the pond this is not easy.
Both NPD and Summit sell RAM clutches. I ordered a kit from Summit shown in the catalogue as having the correct 8 spring hub with organic friction material. I checked with Summit that the disc was as per picture and they confirmed yes it was.
So I get a 6 spring disc.
I cant seem to find out if RAM do an 8 spring organic disc.
So anyone know a part number and source for a correct clutch kit with organic 8 spring friction plate ?
Thank you.
PS I assume I am right in trying to go for an 8 spring plate ?

Thanks Brant, This helps!
Now is there a close reproduction of this one for '65? and are they chrome/stainless (no satin finish like '66s?)
We have been trying to FINALLY learn how to post pictures for over an hour, and the brains of the family (my Wife) is stumped-she HAS read about how to do it but doesn't understand what to put where-any help would be appreciated, then we'll post the pics of the correct '65 Trico blade holders. Thanks!
I'll try.
Have the pics on your computor.
Upload your pics to a photo hosting site - ie tinypic or photobucket.
This is done by going to hosting site and clicking on the upload images button. There will be an option to choose the size, you want 640x480 or size for forums etc.
once the image has uploaded click save to put it in an album.
Open the album and put cursor over the image.
A drop down box will appear, copy the whole line that starts with IMG.
In another tab on your computor start your post on HPMX.
When you want to add your pic right click and paste.
A line of text will appear in your post ( it wont be a pic but will turn into one when you post ).
Post on here and your pic will appear.

I went and looked at mine. The blade says Trico on the back. But the reference to hooded has me confused, also curved / flat. Pics would be great from someone, as it is a very prominant part in full view.
Thanks

I asked another question but I found the answer. I am finding that I have to get the terminology and phrase just right to make the search work. But I am getting the hang of it
