Thanks for the welcome Mike and Mark. I have a couple of main obsessions, both early convertibles - what are you working on?

I currently have the engine out of my April '65 K GT FB. I am detailing the engine bay, motor and trans. But have got in a lot deeper than intended.

I am starting to see daylight at the end of the tunnel.

There was no grommet used, just strip caulking.

Is that no heater grommet or no choke grommet ?

My Dearborn K does not have heater pipe grommets. The choke cable had a grommet. Someone on here and I think it was Bob Mannel said the grommet was similar to the one used to bring the antenna wire thru the side sheetmetal.

I found a spare antenna grommet under my carpet so I used it for my choke cable.

The forward mounting point for the clutch return spring is at the bottom of the shock tower near the engine mount bolts. There are two holes, one round and one slotted, the spring hooks thru the slot and out the round.

I am relieved to hear there are two types, as I thought I had an incorrect joint on the front.

Dearborn April 13th 1965 inside clips cast No 2208 2??8 do not know if the car left the factory with this driveshaft.

    Wow

Would you mind asking your dad if he remembers my car 5F09K6.......... :D.

Seriously tho, your dad might be the answer to everyones prayers. Why not ask him if he wants to sign up as a consultant. I bet the guys here would love to ask him a few questions.

    Cheers

    Mark

Anyone have any ideas on this ?. My first thoughts were that the wider chain would be stronger and less prone to stretch, so would be beneficial to have it there.

I am confused as to how it is possible for the chain to fit. Can anyone give me a dimension for the length of the crank nose from the front to the hatchet seat area ?. It does not look like the crank has been machined, but I would like to check.

I am thinking that someone has fitted a roll pin to an early type crank sprocket then machined it down to allow the hatchet weight to go behind it.

I have to make a decision as to return the timing set I have and get the correct set or keep the wide set.

    Please help me decide.

    Thanks

There is another timing set thread on here at the moment but I thought I would throw this into the ring.

I opened up my motor and found I have the wider non roller timing chain. The sprockets are 1/2" wide and there are no rubbing issues.

I am trying to figure out how this was made to work as I have the correct hatchet as well. And the oil slinger is fitted out front.

The camshaft thrust plate is 0.212" thick. There is a C spacer on the end of the camshaft and this is 0.217" thick.

The camshaft sprocket is flat with no hub.

I was going to replace the set and have gathered the parts from Cloyes to replace it as it is and run a wider chain.

But now I am thinking I should return it to the thinner chain and be more correct.

I have a spare 0.250" camshaft thrust plate and could buy the correct HiPo gears and chain from Cloyes.

Any one else seen a motor with a wide chain fitted ?.

    Opinions please.

Done a search, anyone know a change date ?.

Below is a post from Charles.

Need to repaint my wheels. The scheduled build date was 2/18/65. Does this make it an "early 65" using Argent color or is it a "later 65" using charcoal color?

As usual, thanks for the advice.

The charcoal color would keep you from answering a lot of questions. But, I would say they could have been possible based on your sch build date. Most likely as a dealer installed item.

    Thanks
