My front frame rails are sound but are terribly beat up from years of careless jacking. Does anyone have any tips as to how to possibly straighten them out without resorting to major surgery.
Thanks

I would want to know what an owners thoughts were after a 100 mile trip at 60 - 70 mph before I bought one. I suspect his ears might be bleeding.
Nice looking car. I like the black interior. I hope you put that away in the winter!

Welcome
Good luck with your project

May I suggest one other catagory
Correct original spec car to use and enjoy not a trophy hunter.
My vote
I would put that in the 3rd or 4th category.

Its your poll so you can make the rules, my resoning was 3rd cat is a showcar that wins trophies and 4th cat is modified. What I would like fits neither.
Good fun idea !!

That is great, I would never have figured out that date code. Yes they are both the same.
A real woo hoo moment and a lesson learned in looking for markings as I looked with a magnifying glass after I cleaned the springs the first time and could not see anything, only spotted a feint outline after cleaning with emery paper.

Thanks Mark
Its gonna be very satisfying building that up. Put up a pic a month ( you are only allowed 12 ) no pressure ![]()
Welcome
Have a great summer, my first summer in a K too and we are getting some sun so not too much of a shock for the car ![]()
Today I have had another go at trying to find any numbers on my springs and thanks to Daves info I cleaned the area immediatly behind the shock plate and from nowhere some numbers appeared.
They are not in the format I have seen in pics posted but the layout is as follows
C4ZA
5556S
85 5E
Is this to be expected on my April'65 Dearborn FB? and how does the date decode. Thanks
Dave
I have the daub exactly as yours, are the numbers hidden under the U bolt plate, it is difficult to get an idea of scale from your pic.
Thanks
Guys
I have been having a clean up under the rear of my April'65 GT FB and was trying to find out if I still had the original leaf springs. I have found a yellow paint daub on the rear section of the lower (smallest) leaf in the same position as the ones pictured in a post by Charles some time ago. The trouble is I cannot find the part number and date code. Would this be hidden beneath the lower U bolt plate?, and is it found on the top or bottom of the leaf?
The springs are tired, they give the car a nice stance but I wondered about replacemnts but retaining the lower leaf if it is original. The car is very soft, it is ideal for highway use but for my rural undulating roads it needs some tightening up and the rear springs seem to be 'the tail wagging the dog'. Is Eaton the place to buy springs ? or does anyone have any other possiblities thanks
Wow, looks like you could dive into it!
Whats the proceedure with a clay bar? After that what polish and sealer do you use? Thanks
I agree with the stripe color issue-to match it to the interior, [/quote]
Red stripe on a red car with a red interior ? I dont think so
I have red interior with a black stripe, was that correct?
He He had to chuckle at that. The very first trip out about 1/4 mile from home a guy in a BMW coming the other way practicaly climbed out of his car waving and grinning, I looked across to my wife and we thought oooh ok he likes mustangs.
We got to the coast I turned off the motor and a guy came running out of the cafe and was all over the car, turned out he was a modern mustang owner. And so it goes on.
We have now painted the car matt black and only go out between 2 and 3 oclock in the morning with no lights on ![]()

Hi
They are 205/70 x 14" Uniroyal tigerpaw 1" whitewall. They are very close to the original overall diameter of 25.3"
Ha Ha I asked for that ![]()
Thanks Charles
BTW whats that funny blue stuff at the top of a lot of your pics?![]()
So if you're all having so much fun over there how about some pics?
