I have a 65 convertible Kar build December 10 in Dearborn
Currently restoring the engine bay and have a Jim Osborne sticker kit.
I would like to know the correct location of the stickers as well as any "grease paint" markings that I could add.
Not making a true "Concours" Kar but would like to be as correct/accurate as possible.
The engine has been newly rebuilt and looks great but I want to get the details right !!
Any pictures would be greatly appreciated !
Cheers !
Thanks Fred. Now I'm confused as your first response was the Gold Bottom but your last response was the double hump black bottom.
What changed ?
From what I can tell Tony Gregory's book says All 65's had the gold bottom...
so now im reading that a Double Hump air cleaner with a black base may be the correct one for my car.
Seems Early builds had these and late builds have the non double hump and gold base
So the real question is
Do I have an Early or Late build ?
(December 10 , 1964) build in Dearborn
So my 65 convertible has a build date of December 10 1964.
I don't know if I have an "Early Build" or a "Late Build"
The Paint code is "K"
Early builds are Silversmoke Gray
Late builds are Med Gray Metallic
Is my car one of these colours ?
Thanks, I think I'm going to stick to my original plan with the AOD and A/C.
I was originally looking for an auto , A/C car and just stumbled into this one and couldn't pass it by !
My plan is to keep it and have some fun with it. Flipping is not the intent but as they say "everything is for sale"
I will keep all the original equipment for it if somewhere down the road someone wants to change it back.
So the car I have came with the correct vin stamped toploader and correct 9 inch rear end.
The engine has all the correct hipo parts except the block from what I can tell, even the crank and a brand new hipo camshaft !. It has an Autolite 4100 but I don't think it is original based on the stampings.
Before I did all this research my plan was to build the engine as a roller with hydraulic lifters and put an AOD automatic in it with A/C
Now I'm having second thoughts!
Would the car be worth significantly more if restored as a 4 speed and solid lifter car ?
My idea was to make it an easy driver with modern conveniences like P/S, P/B and A/C
I was going to keep all the old parts like the steering box, master cylinder and transmission in case I sell down the road.
If my research is correct it could be 1 of 3 that came to Canada
Thanks Fred
Thanks for the information !
Like many Mustang things ,they are not simple answers.
My car is a December 10 1964 build date( does this make it an early or late build ?) and the DSO is Canada
So would I have thee pcv valve and the bottom nipple ?
From looking at pictures the 65 hipo air cleaner has a gold bottom is that correct ? (My Kar is a December 64 build date)
But also looking at pictures they all seem to have a pcv valve
The Scott Drake Gold bottom air cleaner doesn't have a hole for the pcv valve.
Is there a Gold bottom repro available with the hole in the bottom ?
So what is the correct configuration ?
My chrome valve covers have a spot for the pcv valve.
So I'm trying to figure out what the correct export bracing would look like on my car
Some have a one piece and some are two piece with the extra straight piece going out to the front
Were these "plant" dependent ?
Great Information guys !
So I do feel a little more comfortable with the information I have
But still not 100% sure.....
Does the fender need to be completely removed or can I just pull it back from the top ?
As per Tony Gregory's book third edition an 81 DSO is Ford Canada
The 81 DSO is "Ford Canada"
car currently has a 393 stroker with a T5 trans
Came with a 66 289 block and the HEH-T toploader
Just added a picture of the vin stamped into the trans and it's a match
I feel the same way. I guy I bought the car from bought it at a very reputable auction here in Canada (RM Auctions) and I would assume that they would verify ?
It does seem to have all the other things like the floor reinforcement plates for the dual exhaust.
Its a solid car either way and I don't think I overpaid for it.
Hi all, just purchased a 65 convertible GT Clone
Vin and door tag match and have a K in the 5th spot.
Looking to see if I can verify its a true K car
VIN 5F08K368524
Door Tag 76A K 26 10M 81 5 E
non original motor but the trans is a HEH-T
