I want to buy a HIPO Carburetor, Autolite 4100, Manual Choke, Manual Transmission, for a 4 speed car, casting code needed C4OF-AL. dated for a car built July 21, 1964.

I will buy or trade a HIPO (911960 J65, S-C30A-C FoMOCo Script HiPo Fan - Sept 65) for a HIPO fan for a July 21,1964/generator car correctly dated Fan.

I also have a service replacement block. C40E-6015F dated 4L19.

    it has:

    D11 molded inside the block.

4M5B 4 on the oil pan flange.- the last 4 is several spaces from the 4M5B

C3 in another location - can't remember where

10 near the clutch E Bar

22 near the timing Chain cover

What do all these number indicate.

    Thanks

    I have a 911960 J65, S-C30A-C FoMOCo Script HiPo Fan.

If the J65 translates to September 65 I assume this fan is not correct for my 64.5 K.

My car build date is July 21,1964/generator car. Will the above described Fan work, or do I need to begin a search for a correct fan?

    Fred,

I have an original fuel pump on my 64.5(3734-S)is there a function test that will let me know that it working corectly or needs to be rebuilt? I am currently restoring the car and guess that the fuel pump has about 64000 miles on it.

    My car has warranty plate 76A S 89 21G 13 9 5

    Axle Ratio Code 4.11:1 with a Tag attached - WCZ-J 4.11 4FC 905

My question is how many 64.5 K Convertibles came from the factory with a 4.11:1 rear end under them?

How many are listed in the registry?

    Thanks Bob

I have a Autolite carb with the following numbers. Can anyone tell me what it was originally made for? I see all the references to the Tag, but I don't see anything that resembles a tag on this carb.

On the side it has the 1.12 indicating venturi size and there is a small number above the 1.12 symbol that appears to be a upsidedown 37? (otherwise unreadable). The front driver mounting flange has a 64AFDG stamped onto it. A number 3 appears on the bottom lip of the mounting flange. A date of 03-18-64 is cast into the bottom.

Also a large 1 is cast underneath and just below the 1.12 venturi symbol.

    What do I have?

    Thanks for the help.

    Bob

I have a 64.5 Dearborn K 4 speed. Stamped on my radiator's driver side mounting flange is:

"DEP C4ZE 8005-G14DD. Can anyone decipher? I have no reasons not to believe that it is the original radiator. It needs to be re-cored, but not sure if it can be re-cored, and I just wanted to confirm that it is original before I begin.

What is the the prefered method of restoration if it cannot be re-cored?

    Thanks, Bob

Should I restore my car with the European rear view mirror or without it?

To the best of my knowledge my 65.4 K Code Convertible was driven and used in Zurich, Switzerland. The car has only one rear view mirror on the driver’s side fender forward of the windshield as was common on European vehicles at that time. There is no clear evidence that it ever had rear view mirrors on the doors.

I am going to media blast the entire car soon and start body work, I need advise about repairing the hole where the mirror was or keeping it original to its history. Media blasting will confirm if it ever had standard U.S. style rear view mirrors.

I plan on going for a concourse car, all numbers match, minor rust, complete body and the interior is in very good shape. It is a Cascade Green, 4 Speed, date code 21G and has a 4.11:1 Axle code.

My dilemma is I am not able to completely corroborate European history, i.e. when, where and why the mirror was installed.

I believe the car was in Switzerland, because its owner’s manual shows that it was serviced in Zurich at 6500 miles, along with the physical evidence that it has the European mirror installed on it.

My problem is, as of this date, I have been unable to find the original owner 1965-67. The DSO code is 89 and the car does not have export stabilizers installed on it.

My attempts to find or identify the 1st owner have failed. The second owner claims it was purchased by them in Connecticut in 67/68. I have interviewed the son of the second owner, 2nd owner his mother is deceased. The son was unable to confirm or provide any additional leads/information about the overseas history of the car.

I have a Connecticut State Trooper helping me search early DMV records for original owner, no luck thus far on this side of the ocean.

I currently have help looking for leads in Switzerland. I am aware it could have been imported into almost any European country, and it just happened to be in Zurich when it was due for an oil change. However, I am still trying everything I can to find out who originally owned it and why it was there, and how it got back. The fact remains it was manufactured in July 65, so I would guess that it could have been registered in Switzerland in 65-67. The old title that I have and interviews of subsequent owners reveal that it has been in the USA since approximately 1967/68.

I was advised that Switzerland officials did not sell convertibles before Oct 22, 1964 and in their papers only the T and C-codes were sold. Grey importers however could have ordered a convertible, most that have been found in Switzerland from that period were from New York, and therefore my car could have been one of the grey imports by sb.

What is a “grey import by sb” and are old import/export records available? I am not aware how long US Customs import/export records are retained and if they are available to the public. Any information on this topic would also be helpful!

Sooo, should I keep the mirror or take it off

    RPM,

Thanks, I wrote CT DMV an email but have not yet received a reply. I have been sucessful finding the vehicle's history back to 66 (Second Owner) I have spoken to the son of the second owner, owner is deceased. Don't know if i will ever find the original owner.

I saw your posting about the 4.11 ratio rear end. My 64.5 K convertible has the original factory installed 4.11 in it.

Does anyone know if and how, I can obtain copies of an old title? I am specifically searching for a 1970’s Connecticut title for my car. I am looking for information on/about the previous owner. My car was in Zurich, Switzerland in the early-mid 60’s and I am trying to find out how it got there and how it got back to the USA.

I have the old title number, and date. I can’t get thru via telephone to any CT. DMV office and the internet site doesn’t provide much info about what may be available. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's your car, so change the colour if you want. The only thing you must do is keep the original door tag on the car. My own personal feeling is I would keep the car original.

What colour is it anyway? If it's a rare colour, it might have a higher value.

    Good luck.

What colors are considered rare in the 64.5 cars?

Recently purchased a complete, early 65 K Code Convertible that had been purchased by a local collector. The vehicle was garaged in 1974 in running condition, very minor rust, no body damage. I am having it professionally restored.

I need help investigating its history. It was purchased by unknown person in Zurich, Switzerland shipped via New York. Does anyone know if VINs and registrations are searchable in Switzerland? The car is date coded July 21, 1965, so I would guess that it was registered in 65-69 in Switzerland. Owner, prior to collector purchased it used at a dealership in Norwich, CT. The previous title reveals that it was back in the USA in 09/70. I have title # and name of previous owner in CT. How can I search, get copies of old titles in Connecticut?

Any guidance or help will be greatly appreciated.
