I agree - I paid just north of $200 for my rad about 9 months ago.

Most people look for 1-3 months prior to your build date - I'd look for a March 5C_ or later.

I've searched for the past couple of years and come up empty.
The Cloyes engineer said the Speed Set for the Hipo went obsolete in the late 70's - and they didn't make to many to start with.
-
As I have posted before I spoke to a Cloyes engineer who confirmed that they made a dual roller set up in the 70's - this could be one.
Cloyes number was 9-2105 in their Speed Set line.
He said the crank gear had the proper hole for the hatchet weight pin.
Be interesting to see what numbers you find on the gears - post some pics if you can.
I doubt it would change the balance as long as the 2 crank gears weight roughly the same.

Typical Perkins!
His stuff is gold plated - regardless of condition!

Watch eBay for an original 4 speed radiator - they pop up from time to time - about 2-3 times per year the past 2 years. I purchased one about 6 months ago and it even had a very good date code for my car.
You can find one - you just have to be patient.

Besides my '65 K fastback I have:
1966 A code Coupe - restomod with '92 GT 5.0/AOD
1982 GT - black on black - nic name is Darth Vader!
1998 GT Daily Driver
2005 Dodge Ram - wifes truck but I LOVE the HEMI!!! Pulls like a dream too.
Forgot to include the 2005 Harley Fatboy 15th Annv. Edition
(This one was WITH my wifes permission - she loves to ride too!)
GONE but not forgotten:
1964 1/2 Coupe (sold for 1st house down payment)
1968 Mercury Cougar - Fully restored - miss this car a LOT, but money went to the K restoration now underway
-
I like them both, but agree with Fred that the solid background is easier to read AND I think think the car stands out better on the solid darker background - obviously being a white car!
In this case the background wasn't too busy, just the light background blended with the car a little.

Contrats! My tranny stamp looks identical, except it is on the opposite side of the drain plug.
Your car is only a few thousand ahead of my April '65 K - be interesting to get some notes or photos of all the marks you find - it will help me with my reassembly - if I ever get to that point!
If you get a good list or photos of all the factory marks please let me know.

Car has been discussed here before - search on the VIN and you should find the discussions.
Bumper guards are missing, looks like a Hurst shifter, and it has '66 hub caps - for the price these should be fixed or original parts included.
Looks like a nice driver, but I would have it inspected.
I'm not sure what the real price is right now for a 64 1/2 K.
Nice to see the original door tag there and that it has not been converted to GT or Pony interior!

My '65 Dearborn K had something between the trim and body on one side - the other side appeared to have had it at one time, but had been removed at some point prior to my ownership.
It looked like a thin double sided sealing tape and it WAS difficult to get off after 40 years! I used a thin metal putty knife to push between the trim and body to cut it - got the trim off with no damage - cleaned up the residue with thinner.
Not sure what I'll use when I reassemble the car - probably look at some thin double sided adhesive tapes from 3M.
Anyone else have suggestions?

FYI - My VIN stamps
mid April '65 Dearborn 2+2
Engine - lightly stamped - no grinding - near oil pan rail PS of block - not completely neat or straight
Tranny - light to slightly heavy stamp - on bottom of main case running front to back on the PS of the drain plug - also no grinding and not neat or straight
-
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but all small block motor mounts AFTER early 1966 are the same - at least the metal/rubber mount between the frame and block.
I put a '92 EFI 302 in a '66 'stang with no trouble - bolted right up using stock mounts (except for the poor quality to the mounts Made in INDIA! - took a little pounding to get the bends flat in the bolt areas near the block!)
You might want to look at the adjustable mounts many aftermarket suppliers now have if you are having trouble.
You should be able to get regular Maverick small block mounts at any parts store.

Looks like he started with a Convertible - so the frame strength is not an issue. It has a long trunk lid that won't open when the hard top is in place!
In his Q&A section he says he custom made the hard top in fiberglass.
Problem I see is that it has FASTBACK windows! This makes the hardtop the only way to seal this car in case of bad weather!
Coupes and Converts use different side door glass and quarter windows - so you can't raise the soft top anymore and have the car seal up properly.
Looks cool like a fastback, but I'd rather have one that can be both soft and hard top capable.
This probably wasn't possible with the difference in the roof slope between the fastback and convert style on the Mustang.
I guess you could customize the soft top to match up to the fastback windows - but he might not have gone to the trouble.

I have a restored original H64 fan that would be perfect for your car, but I will only trade it for a restorable A65, B65, or C65 original fan.

Fred - great story - THANKS for sharing.
I raced my K extensively in High School and the only cars that could beat me had at least 100 cubic inches on me (big blocks or high HP stroker small blocks). The local guys learned very quickly to respect the "K" -- even a stock one!
It is interesting that these cars are so rare that I never had an opportunity to race another K - but did race a '68 Shelby once.
I've seen plenty of big block Camaros or Chevy IIs - I bet that was a fun car to drive! They are super light and wicked fast!
-
Murf - CONGRATS!! Car looks awesome!
Your efforts on an accurate resto really show!
Nice write up too - they paid you a lot of compliments regarding the quality of the work and your attention to detail.
Great to see the car finished and getting the attention it deserves.
-
Please share Fred - I love old stories!
Is it anything like the story of the first Cobra dusting off a 'Vette on the LA Freeway?
-
I have an extra top loader - non K.
I'd be willing to sell it - just collecting dust in the basement.
Worked fine in the car for several years before I pulled it out.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll get you all the numbers off of it.
Don't need the tranny and my K has the original.
