Another possible is cam bearings turning in the block and blocking off the oil feed ports that supplies the push rods and rocker arms with oil. this was an issue with the Y block 292-312 ford engines .dealers would install an outside oiler tube through the valve cover to bypass the blocked oil passages. is there a double roller timing chain in your engine, that would be rubbing on the inside of the timing cover as hey are thicker than the factory k code crank gear . just some things to look at if you do a tear down.

Hi, i heard your noise, does the engine have a miss on one cylinder, does it go away or change when the clutch pedal is pushed down.is the noise louder on the fuel pump, have you taken an oil pressure test, if you can cancel the cylinders one at a time when its running is there a change in the noise on the canceled cylinder. just a few things to check before you do a tear down, also check your alt and crankshaft pulleys for problem , anything that will increase with engine speed.

Hi Fred, i was thinking that also as being a repo fan , on another note was the 67 k code cooling fan the same as a standard 67 289 mustang cooling fan , is so was it because they added a larger radiator or just cutting cost . Chuck.

Mike you can e mail me about your engine jjz109@msn.com chuck.

The engine block you have pictured is a 64 289 5 bolt block casting date is june 3rd 64 . looks to have an aftermarket edelebrock torker 289 aluminum intake manifold, without more info or pictures of the block it is unclear if its a standard 289 or hi po 289 as they both had the same casting number from the foundry , chuck.

Very interesting, does it have a vin stamp and correct date coded block, heads , carb and cooling fan , correct main caps. five or 6 bolt block. cool thing it might get the young kids interested , chuck.

When I purchased it I had it shipped to the ford dealership I was working for at the time , because it looked like an NOS housing the parts manager asked me how and which other ford dealer I found it at .

Fred you are correct he did make them ,I purchased one from him back then to have as a spare, when placed side by side to an original it is spot on, don't know if he is still doing them.

Might also want to be sure the starter has a good ground connection at the bell housing engine plate , also that the starter bolts did not loosen causing poor ground.

I looked into the shipping the block with the crank, cam & timing cover to your location, it is close to 600.00 ,with that being said I would not want to sell it until it had been hot tank cleaned and magged for defects or cracks, that being said I am unable to get that done at this time due to the social distance order in effect which has shut down any business that could do that for me at this time, however as I was looking at craigs list as I do from time to time and I did see a listing in Winchester Virginia in the auto parts section there is a seller that has bundle of hi perf ford parts blocks, heads on and on, I believe that is very close to your location in va it would be well worth your time to look into that for your block or anything else you might need .
