I'm back QMan. It's good to hear from you.
-
I'm also glad to see the site up and running. I missed it.
-
Qman,
The car looks really good. I can't wait to see it up close.
-
Great pictures Brant. I wish I could have made the event.
-
Frank it sounds mighty nice. I can't wait to get by to see your car.
-
Brant you were correct. My car was published in the May 6,2011 Washington Times. Thanks for the heads up. A Mustang club member gave me a copy today at our local car show. Thanks for the info.
-
Thanks Brant. The article was published some years ago. I'm still driving it to national shows and having a ball doing so. Their is no sound like the sound of a flat tappet solid lifter motor as it revs. Let it rip.

Great pictures Fred. Nice looking cars. Do you know how many cars were at the event?

I've just visited the Concourse Mustang (http://www.concoursemustang.com)web site and their was a discussion on 14 April 2011 about standard steel wheels that didn't fit disc brake 1965/66 Mustangs. It appears that I'm not the only one that's had this to occur. Based on my experience and that discussion it's obvious that Ford had a standard steel wheel that didn't fit early Mustangs with disc brakes.

The 1965 parts manual that I have list Part # C4GY 1007-B as fitting
( Fairlane Series, (X) Falcon and (F) Mustang. The car that I was working on did't have any modifications. The stainless steel calipipers are a direct replacement for the 4 piston orginals. My parts book lists parts for 1965 Ford Motor Vehicles only. Poboy 427 your statement makes sense. I don't know for sure what the deal is. I do know that I had a problem. The next time that I have my car in the shop,I'm going try some wheels from a drum brake car on the front. Stay tuned.

Style Steel Wheels or steel wheels that came with 1965/66 V8 Mustangs equipped from Ford with disc brakes will fit V8 Mustangs that came with drum or disc brakes. That's a fact. Try putting a standard steel wheel from a V8 Mustang from Ford Motors with drum brakes all around on a disc brake car. We'll talk then. BTW I have a Mustang Recongition Guide that's dated 1981. The information that I provided came from a January 1965 Ford Parts and Accessories Catalog. You didn't indicate the book that you were looking in for the one part number that you found. I was just curuious as to what book that you're referencing.

I had a costomer bring a 1965 V8 Mustang to me for a conversion from drum to disc brake. I installed the Stainless Steel Brake Corp. 4 piston brake calipers, rotors and other hardware necessary to complete the job. Upon completion of the install I attempted to put the wheels that came in with the car back on. They would not fit. I checked to make sure that the wheels were Ford period correct units and they were. I had a set of steel wheels that came off of my 1966 K GT car that went right on. The offset was different on the wheels. That's my experience. My 1965 Ford parts book shows two part numbers for 1965 steel wheels C4GY-1007-B and C5ZZ-1007-A. I don't know what the difference is.

The wheels for a drum brake car will not fit a disc brake car. The calipers will hit the wheels and lock the wheels up. The inside off set is different. The wheels for a disc brake car will fit a drum brake car. (Been there done that)

The sound of those engines are sweet music. The car looks great.

The Ford warrany was different for the 289 HiPo as oposed to the standard 289. The standard warranty for the Mustang was 24 months or 24,000 miles. The warranty for the HiPo was 90 days or 4,000 miles.

I'm using a Ram 10.5in. clutch and pressure plate in my car and very happy with it. I think when measuring the thicknees of the flywheel you should go to the outter edge where their is no wear take readings and then measure the center section. This will normally show the difference in wear. (0.045)

Ford Motor company parts book shows part# C3AZ 17528-A (Trico) blade assy. fitting Fairlane, Falcon and Mustang.

If you go to any salvage yards looking for the 65 wiper arms be sure to check any early Falcons and Fairlanes as they used the the same wiper arms.
